The vines originate from a Heritage clone of Syrah brought to New Zealand approximately 150 years ago. They produces a wine with an aromatic lift of floral and pepper aromatics and a lushness and denseness on the palate combined with fresh and fine natural acidity.

Robert Parker (RP) : 89 Points (2016)
The medium-bodied 2016 Gimblett Gravels Vineyard Syrah is a violet-perfumed, red-fruited and peppery Syrah that should be consumed in its youth. It's not the richest or most textured offering from the Gravels, but it's fun to drink, showing off the variety's potential for early-drinking charm.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 92 Points (2015)
Juicy blueberry and blackberry flavors are fresh and vibrant, offering accents of white pepper, Szechuan peppercorn and espresso. Harmonious on the long, expressive finish, with velvety tannins. Drink now through 2027. 2,270 cases made.
