Vinha Maria Teresa is a small plot of Quinta do Crasto which is planted with one hundred-year-old vines. This is the oldest plot of vines at Quinta do Crasto and its name is a tribute to the first grandchild of Constantino de Almeida, founder of the Quinta. Despite their low productivity, old vines give highly concentrated fruit allowing us to obtain a wine of great complexity. Quinta do Crasto Vinha Maria Teresa wine is only made in the finest vintages in very limited quantities.

A project called "PatGen Vineyards" was recently developed in order to identify all the varieties that make up Maria Teresa's vineyard with the goal of allowing the replacement of dead vines with genetically identical varieties. This therefore will preserve the "terroir" and the "field blend" of this exceptional vineyard. To date 45 different grape varieties have been identified in this ancient vineyard with 4,7 hectares of vines.

For many wine enthusiasts, enjoying a Quinta do Crasto Vinha Maria Teresa is a true privilege!

Located on the right bank of the Douro River, between the towns of Régua and Pinhão, Quinta do Crasto is a property of 130 hectares, 70 of which are planted with vines.

Nestled on a privileged location in the Douro Demarcated Region, Quinta do Crasto has belonged to the family of Leonor and Jorge Roquette for over a century and like all the great properties of the Douro it dates back to ancient times - the name "Crasto" is derived from the Latin word "castrum", which means "Roman fort".

The large investments made over the past few years have seen considerable advancements in the reorganisation of the vineyards and the implementation of modern equipment in the winery. This work has resulted in a great selection of top-quality wines, including blended wines (Crasto, Crasto Superior and Quinta do Crasto Reserva Old Vines), single varietal wines (Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional), single vineyard wines (Vinha da Ponte and Vinha Maria Teresa), and special category of Port wines (Finest Reserve, LBV and Vintage).

Despite the use of state-of-the-art winemaking technology, Quinta do Crasto maintains its traditional foot treading method, carried out in large granite tanks called "lagares".

The completion of this phase of investment and the passion for making exceptional wines has contributed to Quinta de Crasto´s growing national and international reputation.

Robert Parker (RP) : 97 Points (2018)
The 2018 Vinha Maria Teresa, a field blend from centenarian vines, was aged for 20 months in new oak (90% French, 10% American). It comes in at 14.7% alcohol. Gorgeous, precise, powerful and just a little sexy, too, this is another great Maria Teresa. The brand has built quite a track record of late. Showing fine fruit, some mid-palate finesse and waves of controlled flavor, this then adds some serious pop on the finish. The tannins are not overly astringent here, but there are plenty of them, so this is not close to being ready to drink. Plus, from experience, this is a bottling that will acquire far more finesse, complexity and balance if you cellar it. Peak moments will come closer to the end of this decade than now. Could you drink it now? Yes, because, again, those tannins are not too hard but even giving it a couple of years would help a lot. Will you have wasted at least some of this wine's potential if you dive in now? Definitely. This has hints of greatness today. It mingles elegance, flavor and structure, but it has yet to put it all together. It was certainly better the next day. So it would be best to come back around the end of this decade, not its beginning. I'm leaning up on this gorgeous red. There were 5,970 regular bottles produced, along with 250 magnums and 30 three-liter bottles. As with most of Crasto's 2018 reds, this will not be released until October 2021.
