While initially quite closed on nose this is actually more plump with fruit than the Bernkastler tasted before; notes of marmalade, pink grapefruit, the noble bitterness of meadow herbs and sage.

A highly sophisticated Kabinet, with ripe acids and clear airy flavours finishing on complex slate and savoury minerals.

The Himmelreich of Graach is a first rate vineyard, the soils are a little deeper and richer than the Wehlener Sonnenuhr and the site is little less sun-blanched.

Manfred is certainly one of the world's more eccentric wine producers and a tasting in his drawing room with him is always enjoyable and entertaining. In the Sonnenuhr of Wehlen he owns a portion of one of the Mittel Mosel's top vineyards. Its steep south-facing dark slate slopes tend to result in deeply flavoured, mineral yet rich and smoky wines. In addition, he manipulates some plots in the next door Himmelreich of Graacher which produces engaging wines with fresh acidities that are… Read more

Robert Parker (RP) : 92 Points (2021)
The 2021 Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett is clear, bright and deep on the finely flinty, well-concentrated and aromatic nose with its delicate slate perfume. Lush and fresh on the palate, with savory acidity and mineral grip as well as lovely citrus flavors toward the finish, this is a light, saline and crystalline, stimulating and grippy Kabinett with an intense, almost dry and mouth-watering finish. A classic.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 91 Points (2021)
Apricot, nectarine and elderflower aromas and flavors mark this feathery white, which does show a lot of substance that is backed by firm acidity. The mineral backbone doesn't reveal itself until the lingering, stoney finish. This needs a few more years to fully shine. Best from 2025–2035.

James Suckling (JS) : 94 Points (2020)
Brimming with fresh white and yellow peach. Lovely interplay of juicy fruit and salty minerality on the light-footed and precise palate. Very delicate and gentle, long finish. Drink or hold.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 92 Points (2018)
In a striking and delightful contrast to its superb Badstube counterpart, this Himmelreich Kabinett offers a cooling and overtly citric personality. Lemon and grapefruit are suffused with green herbal essences, accompanied by yeast and wet stone on the nose and an adjunct of juicy ripe honeydew on the polished, delicate, sorbet-like palate. Piquancy of citrus zest and seeds is restrained but invigoratingly efficacious, and the generously juicy finish is admirably transparent to underlying wet stone. (DS) (8/2020)

Wine Spectator (WS) : 91 Points (2018)
A beautiful kabinett, featuring notes of white raspberry and apricot, underscored by electric acidity and minerality, creating harmony and imparting energy and length. Light yet expressive, with a solid structure. Spice notes emerge on the finish. Best from 2021 through 2033.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 95 Points (2017)
The first sip of this wine was like getting a smack for having opened it so soon. The acidity is sharp and unforgiving against the stony flavors; the tautness of the structure gives the wine the snap of a rubber band. But that’s a good sign: Clearly, this wine has something to protect—like the pristinely ripe, clean fruit it eventually reveals in scents of Meyer lemons and tart gooseberries, green pears and tangy pineapple. Pulled from old vines, most of them on their own roots, and vinified in stainless steel with ambient yeasts, it’s regal and restrained. In keeping with JJ Prüm’s age-worthy style, this is set to develop well over the next decade or more. (2/2019)

Bodegas Albamar Sesenta e Nove Arrobas Albariño 2020
Bodegas Albamar Sesenta e Nove Arrobas Albariño 2020

This wine comes from Rías Baixas, a renowned wine region in Galicia, Spain, known for its Albariño wines. The region's granite disintegrating sands and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean impart a distinctive terroir to the wine.

The Sesenta e Nove Arrobas is made from a selection of the best grapes from old vines, which produce fewer clusters but with excellent aromatic qualities. The grapes are vinified exclusively in steel tanks to enhance their rich aromatic qualities, and the wine is aged for 18 months in these tanks. The use of indigenous yeasts and a natural approach to winemaking further accentuates the grape's unique characteristics.

Tasting Notes:

  • Color: The wine has a bright and inviting appearance.
  • Aroma: Expect a vibrant bouquet, brimming with mineral notes along with traces of flowers and a variety of citrus fruits.
  • Palate: The taste is taut, fresh, and saline, with a crisp and invigorating acidity. It flows seamlessly to a finish marked by great freshness, making it both savory and vibrant.

Wine Pairing Ideas: This wine pairs beautifully with seafood, making it an excellent choice for dishes like grilled fish, shellfish, or a seafood paella. Its crispness and acidity also make it a great match for light salads and vegetarian dishes.
