A clear, deep red hue. The wine leads with attractive florals that are exotically perfumed with distinct old-fashioned rose and violets. An uncrowded palate showing opulent, rich deep fruits but balanced rather than the usual Cornish Point avalanche. Lovely mocha, velvety and seductive tannins that lusciously coat the palate.

Very textural and complete with outstanding length.

Bob Campbell MW (BC) : 96 Points (2018)
Supremely elegant Pinot Noir with floral, berry, cherry flavours seasoned with spice and subtle fresh herb flavours. A long, linear wine with a seductively silken texture. Almost too delicious - it leaves me wondering how it could possibly improve with bottle age. (6/2019)

James Suckling (JS) : 93 Points (2018)
Aromas of fresh red cherries and some rose-like florals, in an upbeat, fruit-driven style. A very concentrated and ripe array of brambly raspberries and red cherries with smooth tannins, delivering a web of fresh-fruit flavor. Succulent and spicy, oak-tinged finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Robert Parker (RP) : 92 Points (2018)
Normally a bit darker in fruit tone than the blended bottling, the 2018 Cornish Point Pinot Noir features black cherries and a hint of licorice, plus some vaguely floral notions. It's medium to full-bodied, with supple tannins and just a bit of chocolate on the finish, reflecting the warmth of the vintage.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 91 Points (2018)
A fresh, juicy mix of raspberry, strawberry and pomegranate flavors that are pure and intense, with hints of spice, cedar and tobacco lingering in the background. Firming tannins. Drink now through 2032.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 91 Points (2018)
This Pinot, from a low lying vineyard almost completely surrounded by water, is simultaneously the most reductive, floral and fruity of this renowned biodynamic producer’s lineup. The reduction gives a salty edge but it doesn’t over power the plump cherry and plum fruit or rose petal aromas. The palate is nicely textured with a solid line of acidity that buoys the plush fruit and flows to a long cocktail bitters finish. While this lacks the vibrancy and elegance of some of FR’s other singlesite wines, it’s nevertheless an appealing drop.

Jancis Robinson (JR) : 17 Points (2018)
Light bright cherry red. Sour red cherries on the nose too. Spicy, chewy and embryonic with a long salty finish. Not offering pleasure yet but everything is in place. Sour-cherry aftertaste. 17++/20 points. (JH) (10/2019)

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 93 Points (2017)
The 2017 Cornish Point Pinot Noir encapsulates everything I love about New Zealand's take on this variety. It is unashamedly Kiwi in style, makes no bows towards Burgundy, yet delivers all the same attributes. The bouquet is wonderfully defined, displaying slightly darker fruit than the 2016, hints of blackberry and briar and a touch of white Chinese tea. The palate is beautifully balanced and extremely pure, offering pitch-perfect acidity and caressing, detailed dark plum and wild strawberry fruit on the finish. What a great Pinot Noir! (NM) (11/2018)

Decanter (DCT) : 92 Points (2017)
A juicy expression with a nice plump core, but it's all within a finely structured frame. Very fine, almost chalky tannins give a slippery texture, while ripe cherry fruit and savoury spice with a touch of wood linger on the medium-long finish. Drinking Window 2019 - 2028. (RG) (9/2018)

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 90 Points (2016)
Full of spice and rich in color, this full-bodied Pinot shows off pretty details of crunchy red fruits. Rhubarb and strawberry are brought out thanks to most of the juice being fermented in neutral French oak. The twenty-five percent that is fermented in new barrels contributes woodsy notes of sarsaparilla and star anise. Thirty percent whole cluster complements it all with earthy, red tea–like tannins, which are fine and persistent. A formidable food wine, it would be ideal with roast pork and mushrooms. (4/2018)
