The Guado al Tasso estate is located approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers) to the southwest of the city of Florence, near the medieval hamlet of Bolgheri in the northern part of the Tuscan Maremma. The estate, some 2500 acres (1000 hectares) extends from the coast to the inland hills; in addition to the grapes, the crops include wheat, corn, sunflowers, and olives. The vineyards are situated at altitudes between 150 and 200 feet (45-60 meters) above sea level and are planted on rocky, slightly calcareous, soils. Guado al Tasso was produced for the first time in the 1990 vintage.
Tasting Notes: Matarocchio expresses a highly pleasurable and intense varietal personality and character. The nose shows enchanting sensations of mint, sweet spices, black berry fruit, tobacco, and toasted coffee. The palate is rich in velvety textured and supple tannins, long and persistent, but vibrant and bracing in style as well.
