Le Pinot Noir est le plus capricieux des cépages et demeure le défi ultime pour de nombreux vignerons. Shaw & Smith a rejoint cette quête de manière "artisanale". La sélection des parcelles, le choix mélange clonal, les rendements minuscules et la gestion fastidieuse des vignobles sont essentiels au succès.

Ce vin possède un caractère délicat et charmeur. Au nez il nous offre un parfum floral suivi d’un palais frais et texturé avec des notes de cerise rouge et d’épices. L’acidité dynamique et ses tannins fins mais fermes le gardent frais et élégant.

A beautifully crafted pinot, as always, with focused fruit, subtle undertones of cedar and leather and hints of foie gras. It’s full-bodied, but not heavy, with plenty of tension and focus. Bright acidity with depth and length. Impressive.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 93 Points (2021)

An elegant and gentle expressive Pinot with plump red and blue fruit underscored by subtle floral, hoisin and a myriad dried herbs, leads to a silky, mid-weight palate. There’s lovely balance, structure and depth of flavor, here, with fine, chalky tannins.

Robert Parker (RP) : 91 Points (2016)

Shaw + Smith's 2016 Pinot Noir actually reminds me of some Sonoma Pinots in its attractive notes of cherry cola and wintergreen. But it's only medium-bodied, with delicate, silky tannins, and it doesn't have the creamy ripeness or alcohol of those wines. With its long, mouthwatering finish, it's a fine, elegant rendering of Pinot Noir to enjoy over the next several years.

Light crimson; the bouquet is fragrant and floral with red fruit, spice and forest notes, the palate building on the scaffold of the bouquet. Here the accent is one excellent texture and length replaying the cherry fruit held in a savoury clasp. A wine that creeps up on you, the aftertaste a final hurrah.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 92 Points (2014)

Vivid red. Vibrant raspberry, blood orange and incense aromas are complemented by star anise and smoky mineral accents. Taut and focused on the palate, offering vibrant, spice-accented red berry and floral pastille flavors that flesh out and turn sweeter with air. Finishes smooth and impressively long; suave, harmonious tannins build slowly and fold into the juicy red fruit.

Jancis Robinson (JR) : 17+ Points (2014)

Superb raspberry aromas, pure and fragrant with an air of beauty that befits Pinot Noir. Sleek, light, smooth. (RH)
