Tococo isn’t just the name of this 100% Syrah wine’s single vineyard, but also of a unique bird that inhabits the Elqui Valley. Quick and unusually terrestrial, the Tococo is one of few species which prefers to run than to fly, which is why it can be seen darting from vineyard to vineyard all through Alcohuaz.

Lovely perfumed aromas with hints of black pepper, dried meat and dark berry. Full body, round and velvety tannins. Drink now.

Robert Parker (RP) : 92 Points (2015)
April 2017 - Luis Gutierrez - There is a varietal Syrah called 2015 Tococo (the name of a local bird that features on the label) from vines at 1,788 meters altitude. It fermented in lagar trodden by foot and matured in untoasted 2,500-liter oak foudre for 23 months. The grapes are always picked extremely early in Elqui, the 16th of February. There are some floral aromas and hints of orange peel, a light spicy/smoky touch. The palate has a combination of power and elegance, but it doesn't really remind me of any other Syrah, like the imprint from the place is too strong even for a grape with such strong character. 1,385 bottles were filled in January 2017.

The second wine of Alcohuaz was named after the southern constellation of the Crane, the vessel of materialization between divinity and humanity. Grus owes its characteristics to grapes that come from single vineyards located at multiple altitudes throughout the Alcohuaz property.
