More information on wine critics and ratings

Grapes were primarily estate-grown from the Home Ranch, River Road, Lone Oak and San Lorenzo vineyards in Alexander Valley, and the Cortina vineyard in Dry Creek Valley. Aggressive hand canopy management was maintained with a green harvest and veraison thinning performed to ensure even ripening.

Vinification: During fermentation the must was divided into three parts and each was vinified in a different way. 25% of the grapes were punched-down by hand in small open-top fermenters, 50% went under pump-over fermentation in closed-top stainless steel tanks with delestage and the remaining 25% was fermented in stainless steel rotary-tank. Fermentation on the skins lasted 8-12 days. The wine was barrel aged for 10 months in 75% American and 25% French oak.

Tasting Notes: Full of the spicy, lush black fruit of the Alexander Valley. Briary and raspberry flavours emerge on the palate along with the structure of the cooler Dry Creek Valley. Balanced and elegant.

The Seghesio Zinfandels have been scooping Gold medals and Trophies in the Decanter Awards and International Wine Challenge for a number of years now, proving to an international market that their Zins not only measure up to the competition, but are in the top rank. Now owned by Crimson Wine Group, whose primary focus is on estate-grown wines from some of California and Oregon's most prestigious producers, Seghesio remains focused on its family roots, with Pete overseeing viticulture and… Read more

Plump and briary, this is a zesty update on old-school Zin, offering wild berry, underbrush and licorice flavors that build richness and structure on the lively finish. Drink now through 2028.

Jeb Dunnuck (JD) : 90 Points (2019)
The appellation 2019 Zinfandel Sonoma is a charming, fruit-forward effort with plenty of blueberry and cherry-like fruit as well as classic spice box and peppery herbs. Medium-bodied and nicely textured, with chewy tannins, it doesn't quite have the texture of the others, but it’s nevertheless incredibly charming and satisfying.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 90 Points (2018)
This offering is blended with smaller amounts of Petite Sirah, Carignan and mixed reds. Juicy and generous in blackberry and vanilla, it is a broadly appealing style, utilizing both American and French oak.

Decanter (DCT) : 90 Points (2018)
Classic California! Ripe, fruit-forward and jammy with blueberry, raspberry and Bing cherry flavours laying the groundwork for zesty white pepper spice, subtle tannins and a lively acidity. This is a go-to Friday night wine, perfect for burgers, pizza and charcuterie. (SS) (8/2020)

Robert Parker (RP) : 90 Points (2017)
The medium ruby colored 2017 Zinfandel Sonoma County is scented of spiced peaches, warm raspberries, blueberries and potpourri with notes of cinnamon, dried leaves and exotic spices. The palate is medium to full-bodied, soft and lush with juicy acidity and a long, flavorful finish. This is an easy-drinking but nonetheless delicious Zinfandel and a great value. 76,500 cases produced.
