Decanter (DCT) : 96 Points (2019)
True to the vineyard’s mountain site, up to 814m (2,670ft} in altitude, exposed to the cold Pacific, the wine has vivid cassis purity and a touch of green sage. 16 months in 58% new American oak may have rounded the edges of the wine, but none of that oak shows up in the wine’s flavour—exquisite structure and balance. Ridge’s Estate Cabernets come from old blocks in the Monte Bello Vineyard, but blocks that Paul Draper and John Olney feel tend to produce a wine that’s more accessible young than the blocks used for Ridge’s top wine, Monte Bello. Be that as it may, the Estate Cabernet blend comprised of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot and 1% Petite Verdot drinks like a sophisticated ageworthy wine. (KM) (11/2022)

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 95 Points (2019)
There's a prominent mineral streak of graphite, wet clay and lava rock on the nose of this bottling, which also includes 11% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. Further investigation reveals aromas of blackberry, dried oregano, pepper and dried meat, and the palate falls in line, as leathery tannins frame baked berry, cocoa dust and roasted meat flavors. *Cellar Selection* (MK) (9/2022)

James Suckling (JS) : 94 Points (2019)
Such a real and focused cabernet with redcurrants, Spanish cedar, and mint. Medium to full body. Firm and fine tannins. Some redwood and spice, too. Chewy and juicy. Give it a year or two to soften. (11/2022)

Jeb Dunnuck (JD) : 94 Points (2019)
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate comes from the estate Monte Bello Vineyard on the eastern side of the Santa Cruz Mountains and is 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot. Hitting 13.8% alcohol, its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a brilliant perfume of blue fruits, scorched earth, tobacco leaf, and lead pencil. Beautifully balanced and medium to full-bodied, with building tannins, it's a seamless Cabernet Sauvignon that has some up-front appeal given its balance and elegance yet will benefit from 2-5 years of bottle age and, I suspect, have 20+ years of overall longevity. 94+ (8/2022)

Wine Spectator (WS) : 92 Points (2019)
Distinctive, with a burst of singed vanilla and savory leading off, followed by dark plum and blackberry puree notes that stream through. Shows singed mesquite and a sanguine note as this unfolds. Sleek, tight-grained finish. (JM) (11/2022)

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 92 Points (2019)
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate offers a hugely appealing mix of fruit richness married to the savory, structured style that is the Ridge signature. The 2019 is beautifully exotic, but natural without the volume of the Monte Bello. I imagine it will drink splendidly with minimal cellaring. Succulent red cherry, blood orange, mint, cinnamon and pomegranate. (5/2022)

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 92 Points (2018)
A selection of the lots from Monte Bello that are more accessible as young wines, Ridge’s Estate Cabernet has supple black tannins in 2018, showing some earthy detail in their blueberry-skin flavors. There’s rich fatness to the texture, even as the tannins restrict the fruit from showing itself completely. This will need a few years in the cellar to open.

Robert Parker (RP) : 94 Points (2017)
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Monte Bello Vineyard is blended with 21% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The nose is still tightly wound, taking plenty of air to reveal deep aromas of cassis, tobacco, licorice and coffee with top notes of violet and graphite. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, with a firm grain and concentrated fruits, and it finishes very long, layered and uplifted. This will require more time in bottle than the Klein Cabernet.

Connoisseurs' Guide (CG) : 91 Points (2017)
Medium in volume and high in complexity, this easy-to-like bottling combines inviting notes of cassis with hints of olive and root beer-like richness in its first nose and entry to the palate. On second glance, there are hints of black cherries and a quiet whiff of spice to be had, and those elements hold into the polished, lightly tannic finish. The wine is sure to age on balance alone, and its ease on the palate gives it current drinkability as well. (8/2020)
