Region and Vineyards
This Malbec is crafted from vineyards located in the esteemed regions of Luján de Cuyo and Uco Valley in Mendoza, Argentina. The vines are situated at altitudes ranging from 1,000 to 1,700 meters above sea level, ensuring optimal conditions for grape ripening. These high-altitude vineyards benefit from cooler temperatures, which help preserve the wine’s natural acidity and enhance the concentration of flavors. The vines are ungrafted old vines, contributing to the depth and complexity of the wine.
Winemaking
The Hey Malbec is meticulously crafted through a combination of traditional and modern winemaking techniques. 80% of the fermentation is conducted with temperature control between 25 and 27°C over a 25-day maceration period, with three daily pumpovers to ensure maximum extraction of flavors and color. The remaining 20% undergoes fermentation with whole clusters, which introduces a touch of carbonic maceration, adding a fresh, vibrant character to the wine.
After fermentation, 70% of the wine matures in small concrete tanks, while the remaining 30% is aged in used French oak barrels to add complexity and smoothness. This balance between concrete and oak aging ensures the wine maintains its fresh fruit profile while developing additional layers of texture and flavor. The wine is recommended to be aged for 4 years for optimal enjoyment.
