Bright ruby-red hues. A textbook Stellenbosch Pinotage with aromatic and spicy aromas of mulberry, raspberry and cinnamon. Muscular, well integrated tannins add great structure. Flavours of bramble, violets, plums and black berries are balanced by scented new oak. An elegant wine with savoury notes on the lengthy finish, and a lifting underlying freshness.

A delightful and juicy wine, the 2021 Pinotage offers a ripe and fleshy expression of black raspberry, spiced plums and dark cherry skin with elegant oak spices and dusty florals with a soft, lingering potpourri essence. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is fresh and red-fruited with succulent acidity and fine-grained tannins that lift the mid-palate while displaying plenty of toasted oak essence. This Pinotage is gorgeous as it offers layers of attractive fruit and oak before gliding to a graceful, food-friendly finish. While it's still primary, this will undoubtedly improve with additional bottle age. About 70,000 bottles were filled after the wine matured for a year and a half in 80% new French oak. Nicely done!

A rich and spicy pinotage that shows notes of cedar, spice box, cumin, vanilla and chocolate cherries. Full-bodied, plush and juicy, with chocolate-soaked tannins. Remains fresh and lively.

This wine has an oaky palate exhibiting raspberry, coffee and spices that are kept fresh by good acidity. It’s not overly complex, but it has depth and a lasting finish with hints of herbs.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 90 Points (2019)

A racy red, with light, crisp tannins and enticing tar and vanilla notes paired with sweet black raspberry and boysenberry fruit flavors. Medium-bodied, with an herbal overtone that lingers on the finish.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 93 Points (2018)

The 2018 Pinotage comes from vines up to 65 years old, cropped at 5 tons/ha, and raised for 16 months in 80% new oak and 20% second fill. There is a little reduction on the nose, though this is brushed away with aeration to reveal black plum mixed with Christmas cake and a hint of licorice; fine delineation here. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive harmony and focus, the oak seamlessly integrated. There is fine backbone to this Pinotage, and a sustained white pepper finish that lingers. Outstanding. Still youthful and showing its 80% new wood, this is a very ambitious Pinotage from a fantastic Cape red wine vintage, exhibiting considerable colour, structure and concentration, fine-boned tannins and layers of raspberry and black cherry fruit. Give it time.

Pinotage may not be the most fashionable grape variety but I urge you to try this entry-level example from one of South Africa's finest producers. The grapes are fermented in open concrete vats before maturing for 14 months in second-use French oak barriques, combining the juicy red fruits of Pinotage with the rich complexities of the oak. Consequently, this is a softly structured wine displaying intense red berry flavours joined by coffee, cream and chocolate notes. Try it with hearty pasta dishes. Drinking Window 2019 - 2024
