Region and Vineyards
Located in the southernmost part of the Margaret River wine region, Karridale is an area defined by its cool maritime climate, abundant cloud cover, and brisk ocean winds. These conditions create an exceptional terroir for growing Chardonnay, allowing for slow ripening and the preservation of crisp acidity and vibrant fruit character.
The vineyard sits on rare quartz-based soils, which contribute to the wine’s mineral-driven elegance. Chardonnay clones, carefully selected for their high-quality aromatic expression, thrive in this cool, humid microclimate, developing remarkable structure and intensity. The influence of the Southern Ocean ensures the grapes retain their freshness and delicate nuances, key to producing world-class sparkling wines.
Winemaking
Idée Fixe Premier Brut Blanc de Blancs is crafted using 100% Chardonnay, sourced exclusively from estate-grown vineyards. The fruit is hand-harvested at optimum ripeness and pressed gently to obtain the premium free-run cuvée, ensuring a wine of purity and finesse.
Following fermentation, the wine undergoes meticulous méthode traditionnelle production, with 21+ months of ageing on lees to develop its textural complexity and autolytic character. A dosage of 4.75g/L is carefully measured to enhance balance while preserving the wine’s natural vibrancy. The result is a sparkling wine that combines crisp acidity, layered complexity, and a fine bead.
