More information on wine critics and ratings

Pale straw with lime hues. Intense, lifted aromas of lime leaf and citrus zest supported by lively jasmine floral notes, bath salts and crushed herbs.

The palate is tight and focused, displaying dominating lime flavours and ripe citrus, beautiful purity, and mineral notes leading to a long, intense, crisp finish with steely acidity.

James Suckling (JS) : 96 Points (2022)
This has such vibrant and pure, tangy fruit. Lime zest, lemons, white flowers, green apples, slate and shells. Dusty crushed stones, too. Sharp and precise, with a medium body and mouthwatering acidity. This is very fruity and dense, with a column of fruit that goes deep in to the wine.

Robert Parker (RP) : 95 Points (2022)
2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the Julius Riesling, and what a vintage to be able to commemorate. 2022 was blisteringly good, seemingly everywhere in South Australia (and Western Australia too), and that was never more true than for Riesling. Here, in the 2022 Julius Riesling, the tension and savory precision that marks Julius is out in full force; the wine this year is littered with preserved lemon, brine, pith and crushed shells (odd, sure, given the non-proximity to ocean!) and, more interesting, leafy things too, like green tea and orchard leaves. Kaffir lime, also? Excellent.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 90 Points (2022)
Effusive, with terrific intensity to the dried pineapple, Fuji apple and tangerine flavors, while lemon blossom notes linger on the bright, juicy finish.

James Halliday (JH) : 98 Points (2021)
Citrus and passionfruit blossom soar as you swirl the glass, and the palate achieves the seemingly impossible with the volume of turbo-charged fruit. It reaches every receptor in the mouth and there's no hint of added acidity, the balance and length faultless.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 92 Points (2021)
A multitude of appealing aromas, from lavender and lime blossom to talcum powder ... lemon oil to orange essence introduce this racy, citrusy Riesling, from one of Aus’s most historic and famed producers. There’s flavor intensity and a slightly chalky mouthfeel. Still youthful, this has plenty of life left in it.

Decanter (DCT) : 92 Points (2019)
Bright, elegant perfumed floral and lime aromas lead to a zesty saline palate laced with fresh, pithy grapefruit.

Bob Campbell MW (BC) : 90 Points (2018)
Light straw-yellow hue and a dried herb, dried-floral bouquet, the palate grapy, fruity and soft, with a tickle of sweetness and soft acidity, which renders the wine very approachable in youth. Accessible now, but maybe not for long keeping. The dried-flower aroma is classic Eden Valley. (HH) (3/2019)

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 91 Points (2017)
This is a fleshy, rich vintage of Julius, its scents of citrus blossom deepened by some smoky, vegetal tones. Julius typically begins to show itself six to eight years from the vintage; this wine’s stoniness and firm acidity suggest it will live for many years after that.
