Region and Vineyards

Costa Toscana IGT spans Tuscany's Tyrrhenian coast; Duemani's plots sit above Bolgheri in Riparbella at 220-300 m where constant sea breezes temper summer heat and extend hang-time. The site's clay-rich, stony soils with a strong limestone skeleton and marine influence translate into dense fruit with a distinctive mineral edge. High-density planting (≈8,400 vines/ha) and Guyot training drive low yields and concentration.

The estate farms organically and biodynamically (Demeter-certified), working by hand to preserve canopy health and phenolic ripeness without excess alcohol—a key to Cabernet Franc's purity on the coast. The elevated, amphitheatre-like exposures and persistent airflow protect against disease pressure and help retain natural acidity.

Winemaking

This cuvée is 100% Cabernet Franc from estate parcels in Riparbella. Grapes are hand-harvested with rigorous sorting, then fermented in wood/temperature-controlled vessels with gentle extraction to preserve perfume and finesse—techniques Duemani has long used for this flagship bottling.

Élevage lasts 20 months in 225-228 L French barriques, 90% new (some sources report 80-90%), followed by bottling without fining or filtration. The 2021 finishes at 15% vol.—powerful yet remarkably composed thanks to ripe tannins and maritime freshness.

Notes de Dégustation

  • Color: Deep, saturated ruby with youthful purple hues; slow-forming, stained tears.
  • Aroma: Blackberry, blackcurrant and mulberry layered with violet, cedar, laurel, graphite and hints of tobacco and Mediterranean scrub; a subtle chalk/gunflint edge adds lift.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and concentrated yet linear: compact black fruit, dark spice and savory earth; silky but tightly woven tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, saline-tinged finish. Critical acclaim: JS 98, WA 95, Falstaff 96.

Did you know?

"Duemani" means "two hands"—a nod to founders Elena Celli and Luca D'Attoma, whose four-handed approach marries biodynamic viticulture with precision winemaking on Tuscany's coast.

Wine Pairing Ideas

  • Bistecca alla Fiorentina - Char and marbling echo the wine's smoky cedar and generous tannin, while the meat's richness softens the structure.
  • Pappardelle al Cinghiale - Wild boar's gamey sweetness and herbs mirror Cabernet Franc's dark fruit, laurel and savory notes.
  • Herb-crusted lamb rack - Rosemary, thyme and garlic dovetail with the wine's Mediterranean scrub and spice accents.
  • Aged Pecorino Toscano - Salt crystals and umami knit with the wine's mineral core and firm, polished tannins.

Robert Parker (RP) : 95 Points (2021)
The 2021 Cabernet Franc Duemani (made with organic and biodynamic fruit) opens to inky dark concentration and bold aromas of blackberry preserves, blackcurrant, laurel leaf and green curry. It presents a full-bodied mouthfeel with concentration and a powerful 15% alcohol content. Duemani ages in barrique for 20 months, with 80% new oak and 20% second-use barrel. The tannins are harsher in this concentrated vintage, so I recommend giving this wine more time in bottle as a result.

James Suckling (JS) : 98 Points (2019)
Fragrant nose of violets, dried flowers, plums, morello cherries, milk chocolate and toffee. It’s supple and juicy, with a medium body and creamy tannins. Lovely, plush plum fruit and a caressing, lengthy finish. Very structured at the end. Needs a couple of years at least. This is in form like a top long distance runner. From organically/biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification.
