Region and Vineyards
Santa Barbara County is one of California’s premier Pinot Noir regions, benefiting from a cool, maritime-influenced climate that extends the growing season. The unique east-west orientation of the valleys allows fog and ocean breezes to moderate temperatures, preserving freshness and complexity in the wines.
This Pinot Noir is sourced from six exceptional vineyards across two appellations: Bien Nacido, Rancho Real, Rancho Ontiveros (Santa Maria Valley), Rancho La Cuna, Kick On, and Los Alamos (Santa Barbara County). These vineyards feature a mix of sandy loam and clay-rich soils, which contribute to the wine’s structure and depth. The diverse terroirs bring a harmonious balance of bright acidity, rich fruit, and fine tannins.
Winemaking
The winemaking process follows time-honored, traditional techniques. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in small lots, ensuring precise control over extraction and flavor development.
Fermentation is carried out with daily manual punch-downs, enhancing color and tannin integration. The wine is then aged for 12 months in François Frères French oak barrels, with 10% new oak, allowing for subtle oak influence while preserving the purity of the fruit.
