Schloss Lieser Juffer Riesling Kabinett 2021

The 2021 Juffer Kabinett is clear, deep and finely reductive on the flinty, intense and well-concentrated nose. Savory and lush on the palate, with delicate salinity and precise mineral acidity that uplifts the sweetness (40 grams per liter or a bit more) of this Juffer Kabinett, this is a consistent, very elegant and promising Kabinett that will be fascinating in about five or six years but can be aged for at least four decades. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022.

A beautifully built kabinett, with a silky texture and interesting minerally drive underscoring the flavors of apricot and guava, while vibrant acidity gives this fuel. Notes of cardamom accent the long finish. Drink now through 2029. (AZ) (7/2019)

Aeration and time supplants initially earthy smoky notes on the nose with fresh apple, pear and hazelnut. The palate is surprisingly forward and fruity showcasing pristine piercing tangerine and peach flavors. It's a dazzling, punchy kabinett that finishes on a delicately honeyed note. (6/2018)

There is some reductive, youthful 'Mosel stink' here but it largely parts to reveal scents of seed- and pit-tinged lime and grapefruit, apple and white peach. The silken, buoyant palate features juicy fruit profusion but at the same time a decidedly stony undertone. The finish is correspondingly stony, with cooling herbal inflections to its understated but hauntingly lingering apple and white peach. High residual sugar has been entirely harnessed in the service of the fruit without engendering a more than modest sense of sweetness, and this impeccably balanced Kabinett does not forget its fundamental duty to refresh. This has explosive youthfulness, great fruit and some real depth. Maybe it's a bit big for kabinett, but the finish is long and graceful. Better from 2018, but could age a decade. (6/2017)
