Seghesio

The Seghesio Zinfandels have been scooping Gold medals and Trophies in the Decanter Awards and International Wine Challenge for a number of years now, proving to an international market that their Zins not only measure up to the competition, but are in the top rank.

Now owned by Crimson Wine Group, whose primary focus is on estate-grown wines from some of California and Oregon's most prestigious producers, Seghesio remains focused on its family roots, with Pete overseeing viticulture and his cousin Ted making the wines.

The astonishing concentration of flavours which they manage to achieve in their wines can be attributed to the age of their vineyards, some of which were established as far back as 1895. Italian consultant Alberto Antonini has helped them over the years to improve the quality of their Sangiovese (sourced from the oldest Sangiovese vineyards in California) and his influence can also be seen in the ripe, juicy, approachable style of Zinfandel which has become their hallmark.

The Seghesio wines have a freshness (they bottle early in order to preserve fruit) and a purity of fruit, balance and elegance that is difficult to achieve with Zinfandel. Although best known for their reds, Seghesio also produces a delicious Arneis, another traditional Italian variety, which is sealed under Stelvin to retain its superb aromatic character.
