High in the hills surrounding the Barossa Valley lies Pewsey Vale, Eden Valley’s pioneer vineyard. Englishman Joseph Gilbert established the
vineyard in 1847, trialling several grape varieties, including Riesling.

The site was later purchased by well-known grazier Geoff Angas-Parsons. In 1961 Angas-Parsons called on friend Wyndham Hill Smith to assist him in developing the historic vineyard site.

After researching old records and studying the vineyard’s climate, soil types and suitable clones, the pair believed the site provided the perfect conditions to develop delicate Rieslings. In the ensuing 12 months, Wyndham established a contoured Riesling vineyard upon the slopes of the estate.

Today Pewsey Vale Vineyard is a single vineyard dedicated to the single variety – Riesling.

Tasting notes: Pewsey Vale Vineyard Riesling is a classic example of dry Eden Valley Riesling, showing the flavours we see so consistently each year from this wonderful single vineyard.

This wine shows intense aromas of talcum and lemon lime fruit, with a fine floral perfume overlaying dried herb.

The palate shows great length and depth with limes, white flowers and fresh rosemary.

The wine finishes with a fresh natural acidity, which balances the flavour intensity, and a minerality that will reward medium to long-term cellaring.

Robert Parker (RP) : 94 Points (2022)
This 2022 Single Vineyard Estate Riesling is rocky, dry, floral, fleshy, tight, talc-y, curved and flowing. It has austerity and meat in equal measure, and it lingers long after the wine has gone. What a great wine. It's pleasurable and age-worthy, with brilliant structural integrity and impressive freshness. It's complex as well. Great!

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 92 Points (2022)
An open-knit, floral bouquet of honeysuckle and jasmine, along with peach, lime and ginger, opens to a mouthfeel that’s almost surprisingly dry considering the honeyed nature of the nose. There’s a chalky texture, delicate flavor and lovely lift of acidity.

Decanter (DCT) : 90 Points (2022)
Appley nose with notes of pear, peachy fruit and hints of flowers. Lemony on the palate, with a zesty finish.

James Suckling (JS) : 96 Points (2021)
A very fresh, piercing nose of sliced lemon with plenty of sweet perfume, too. The palate is similarly intense and vibrant with white stone-fruit and lemon flavors, delivered in an impressively intense and balanced mode.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 90 Points (2021)
Intense and complex, with fresh grated lime zest, pear, toasted herb and Fuji apple flavors that show notes of candied ginger and beeswax on the long, expressive finish.

James Halliday (JH) : 94 Points (2017)
Louisa Rose's description of soft acidity is apt, as it is buried in the palate, the fruit more lemon than lime, the wine already dangerously delicious. History is likely to make my points miserly.
