Vineyard:
The grapes are grown in two locations: Perdriel and Galtallary. The vineyards at Perdriel are situated at an altitude of 980 metres above sea level, near the banks of the Mendoza River. This proximity to the river provides high levels of water retention in the vines, which are over 80 years old. Yields range from between four to five tonnes per hectare. The region has a continental climate, with cool winters and mild summers, warm days and cooler nights.

The soils are sandy silt and rocky, with very good drainage, which also promotes root growth. Irrigation is via the traditional technique of flooding. These attributes give the Malbecs great intensity, notable red and black fruit aromas, minerality and a very gentle structure. The Galtallary vineyards sit at a higher altitude of 1,500 metres.

A continental climate prevails, with cold winters, mild summers and good diurnal temperature differences. The soils are loamy clay and calcareous with a depth of 80cm above a rocky subsoil. This soil has good drainage and here the vineyards are drip irrigated. Hand pruning and a green harvest takes place in both vineyards to ensure the optimum exposure to the sunlight, while concentrating the flavours in the berries.

Winemaking:
The grapes were carefully sorted, then vinified in small concrete tanks. 80% of the fruit was traditionally fermented at controlled temperatures of 25- 27°C, with three daily pump overs, followed by a maceration period of 25 days. 20% of the remaining fruit was vinified as whole clusters, obtaining a carbonic maceration.

Tasting Note:
A very stylish Malbec delivering enticing aromas of wild dark fruits, vanilla and chocolate on the nose. Complex and rich on the palate, with juicy black fruits, violet and black pepper enveloped in soft ripe tannins and an opulent finish.

James Suckling (JS) : 92 Points (2018)
This has attractive, thirst-quenching appeal with instantly delicious summer berries in abundance. The palate has a long, lithe and juicy feel with a succulent and silky palate that really delivers fresh appeal.

Robert Parker (RP) : 91+ Points (2017)
The young and fresh 2017 Hey Malbec! mixes grapes from young vines in the Valle de Uco with those from older ones in Luján de Cuyo. It fermented with some full clusters in concrete vats and used barriques, and most of the wine was kept in concrete with just a small percentage in oak. This has an explosive nose, with great maturity, moderate acidity and superb natural balance. It's very clean, focused and fruit-driven. It seems simple, but t'is a lot more complex and has more depth than you think. There are flowers, berries, herbs and spices, with a juicy, harmonious palate. What an entry-level Malbec should deliver. 150,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2018.

Tim Atkin (TA) : 92 Points (2016)
You can see why this wine is such a commercial success. It’s fun, it looks good and it’s brimming with flavour. Appealingly oaked, with 20% whole bunch fermentation, it’s floral, textured and very smooth with good underlying complexity. 2017-21

Jancis Robinson (JR) : 16.5 Points (2016)
Wild dark small berries, savoury dry finesse, super-fine tanins. Not floral but almost a graphite scent. No fruit sweetness. 60% in concrete – energy and texture. Deep purple crimson. Dusty but lifted fruit. Dark and refined and leaves the mouth feeling clean. (JH)

Wine Spectator (WS) : 89 Points (2015)
This offers well-structured red plum, dried berry and cherry tart flavors accented by pepper notes. Sanguine details linger on the minerally finish, accented by hot stone hints. Drink now through 2019

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 89 Points (2015)
Dark berry and cassis aromas precede a focused chewy palate. Blackberry, blueberry, chocolate and spice flavors come together well, while a chunky full finish is ripe and satisfying.
