More information on wine critics and ratings
The nose of this wine displays an enticing mix of white stonefruits and sweet pineapple with an underlying hint of ginger.
The palate is luscious and flavoursome, again nectarine and peach are prominent, with a twist of candied citrus rind.
These sweet flavours evolve through the palate into more savoury flavours reminiscent of raw almonds and spice.
A generous, textural wine with a surprising finesse on the finish.

Decanter (DCT) : 90 Points (2017)
Fragrant and floral this bright McLaren Vale blend has been crafted using various different fermentation methods; 4% is ‘wild’, 15% of the Viognier is fermented in aged oak to add body and texture. The result is a punchy, fruit-driven wine with tinned pineapple and ripe mango, white pepper spice and ginger all stitched together with a pithy acidity. Tremendous value for money.

James Suckling (JS) : 89 Points (2017)
The viognier leads this along with ripe apricots and ginger. The palate delivers an assertive twist of marsanne’s lemon punch.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 91 Points (2016)
Chester Osborn manages to produce a cool and juicy white from the warm climes of McLaren Vale, particularly in 2016, when rain in late January refreshed the vines. He focuses this blend on fruit grown in free-draining soils over limestone, once a seabed built by the shells of creatures like hermit crabs. Early-harvested fruit provides brightness to the richer fruit left to ripen later. The wine has the crispness of Asian pear to balance the fuller notes of peach and smoky chamomile. Chill it for Dungeness crab. Best Buy

Wine Spectator (WS) : 87 Points (2016)
Firm and focused up front, with almond skin, pear and melon flavors and a whiff of lanolin. Finishes with a generous rush of peach and fresh ginger notes. Drink now.

Robert Parker (RP) : 87 Points (2015)
Aug 2016 - Reviewer : Lisa Perrotti-Brown. Opening with warm peach, spiced pears and aniseed notes, the 2015 The Hermit Crab Marsanne / Viognier is light-bodied and dry with plenty of crisp, refreshing zing to compliment the spiciness in the persistent finish.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 90 Points (2014)
Mar '16 - Josh Raynolds - Light, bright yellow. Ripe pear and peach on the fragrant nose. Plush, round and seamless, offering sappy pit fruit and melon flavors and a refreshingly bitter jolt of pear skin. Closes on a gingery note, with very good clarity and a sexy, persistent floral quality.

James Halliday (JH) : 86 Points (2014)
Stone fruit, musk and spice. Some texture. Expressly designed to ensure no horses are scared.

Jancis Robinson (JR) : 16 Points (2010)
Tasted Oct 2011 - More attractively restrained than the Yalumba, I reckon. Smooth, ripe stone fruit. Long, creamy finish. (RH).
