Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 89 Points (2020)
Plush chocolate, plums and blackberries—with some earthy, beet root tang and florals—is the opening act to this mouthfilling Shiraz. The plump, juicy fruit flavors are wound in powerful tannins that are slightly drying. Protein required.

James Suckling (JS) : 90 Points (2019)
Earthy, with plenty of ripe dark berries and plums, as well as blueberries and perfumed florals (this has a sliver of white grapes, too). The palate has density and depth and focuses inwards with a dark-plum and sanguine edge to the tannins, abundant ripe berries and a bold finish. Almost Italianate tannins here. Quite long.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 89 Points (2018)
Dense and concentrated, with dark notes of blackberry, dried blueberry, sage, bay leaf and strong Assam black tea. Focused on the finish, where the tannins firm up. Drink now

Robert Parker (RP) : 87 Points (2017)
D'Arenberg's 2017 The Footbolt Shiraz offers more red berries on the nose than most vintages, adding a bit of mint into the mix of raspberries and red currants. It's medium-bodied and a bit tart, with slightly astringent tannins that could use another year or two in the cellar to soften.

James Halliday (JH) : 90 Points (2013)
Hand-picked and machine-harvested, crushed and destemmed, cultured yeast, open-fermented with heading down boards, one-third fermented in barrel, followed by 22 months in 50/50% French and American oak. Medium to full-bodied, initially supple before its tannins swing into action, but, having done so, don't throttle the blackberry, plum and licorice fruit. You can't help liking the wine, and loving its value for money.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 92 Points (2012)
A great vintage of the Footbolt, this has the balance, savory spice and density of an old-vine wine (all estate grown, the vines ranging from 20 to 100 years old). The flavors come in any color you like, as long as it's black - black plum skin, black olive, black pepper - their intensity lightened by a floral note that lasts.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 88 Points (2012)
Mar '16 - Josh Raynolds - Deep ruby. Powerful, smoke-tinged aromas of black and blue fruits, anise, black cardamom and espresso. Rich yet lively on the palate, offering bitter cherry, blackberry and dark chocolate flavors and a building note of sweet floral pastilles. Dusty tannins give grip and focus to the long, smoke-tinged finish, which leaves cherry and berry skin notes behind. This year's version of this bottling comes off as more serious and ageworthy than usual.

Bright straw in colour with green hues, the 2017 Y Series Viognier has aromas of orange blossom and fresh ginger, with hints of honeysuckle and white flowers. Fresh pineapple, Chinese white tea and dried figs lead into a creamy mid palate with a silky textural finish. Wine Spectator TOP 100 2018
