Region and Vineyards
Situated in the prestigious Napa Valley, Caymus Vineyards benefits from varied terroirs, with 75% of vines in valley floors and 25% on hillsides. This combination allows the wine to balance power and finesse, with fruit from well-drained soils enhancing concentration and depth. Napa Valley’s warm days and cooler nights provide ideal conditions for developing ripe flavors while maintaining acidity, essential for a robust Cabernet Sauvignon. The family cultivates approximately 350 acres of vineyard land, managing each parcel to optimize grape quality.
The vineyards are cultivated without irrigation, resulting in smaller, highly concentrated grapes. This dry farming approach forces the roots to delve deeply into the soil, contributing to the wine's structure, minerality, and unique Napa expression.
Winemaking
The Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, picked at peak ripeness during the warm September and October months to ensure rich fruit character. After harvest, the wine undergoes 12 months of aging in French oak barrels, which imparts complex notes of vanilla and spice while softening the wine’s tannins. The grapes are vinified to create a plush, full-bodied style, with each step carefully tailored to produce a wine that embodies Caymus’ signature approach.
With 14.6% alcohol, this Cabernet Sauvignon showcases Napa Valley’s warmth, leading to a rich, supple palate that is approachable yet age-worthy.
