2018 was an average year in Salta, not as extraordinary as it was in Mendoza. The 2018 Old Vines Torrontés follows the path of seriousness and balance of the previous years, with a moderately perfumed nose and an austere palate, with notable acidity and a dry finish. This is kept with lees in concrete eggs for some six months. 8,000 bottles were filled in October 2018.

Alejandro Pepa achieves added complexity in this impressive Torrontés by using 15% whole bunches and partial ageing in foudres. Floral lime and kiwi fruit notes are complemented by some tannic grip and structure from the stems. 2019-22

James Suckling (JS) : 91 Points (2018)

Plenty of apricot pie and sugarcoated apples and then some herbal undertones, such as fresh coriander, as well as white stones. Medium-bodied with sweet-and-sour character, thanks to the combination of fleshy stone fruit and bright acidity.

El Esteco, a winery founded in 1892 in Cafayate, makes this full-bodied, rich torrontés, presenting the variety’s typical floral notes nestled into peachy fruit. The texture is broad and fleshy, enhanced by the ten percent of the wine that went through malolactic fermentation and aged in American oak barrels. The fruit feels fresh, with a salinity that makes it mouthwatering.
