This impressive Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit parcels from premium vineyards.

Deep red hues lead to a seductive bouquet of red and dark cherries, wild berry and subtle spicy clove notes on the nose. The wine is expressive with an elegant and refined palate displaying richness and generosity.

The complex palate is layered and balanced, complemented by fine silky tannins encasing concentrated fruit characters, all hallmark traits of classic Pinot Noir.

Introduction It is not easy to tell your Dad that you are quitting a career in carpentry to try your hand at making wine. But in 1961, at the age of 21, that's exactly what Sir George Fistonich did. He leased five acres of land from his father, planted one acre with grapes and started making wine under the name 'Villa Maria' which he chose because his friends thought it sounded European. Since those first cuttings took hold in the soil out in Mangere, near Auckland, Sir George has… Read more

Robert Parker (RP) : 91 Points (2017)
Sourced from the Taylors Pass and Seddon Vineyards, and blended with fruit from the Wairau Valley's southern side, the 2017 Reserve Pinot Noir shows the coolness of the vintage in its herbal, briary aromas and wiry feel. Yet it's still reasonably plump in the mouth, marked by silky tannins and much more finesse than this bottling used to show. It does fade a bit quickly on the finish.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 90 Points (2013)
Smooth and crisp, with supple tannins and a juicy presentation of cranberry, cherry and strawberry flavors, framed by baking spices, cigar box and dried rose petal details. A fresh earth streak gives the tannins a sense of traction on the finish. Drink now through 2030.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 89 Points (2012)
Fresh medium red. Pungent cherry and spice aromas are lifted by a minty topnote on the perfumed nose. Juicy and high-pitched, conveying an impression of energy and sharp definition to the flavors of bitter cherry, red berries, fresh herbs and spices. Just a touch green but nicely smooth and intense, finishing with fine-grained tannins.

James Suckling (JS) : 94 Points (2011)
Pretty aromas of red and dark cherry with higher tones of blueberry and boysenberry poking through. Plenty of spice and gamey complexity to draw the pinotphile closer. There is plenty of space on the palate, as is common with Marlborough pinot noir, while hints of game, spice and forest floor make for an alluring wine. The finish is bright and long with a delicious savory slant.
