Taylor’s is one of the few remaining houses to produce a 30 Year Old aged tawny Port. Selected red Ports produced in the eastern areas of the Douro Valley are matured in seasoned oak casks in Taylor’s cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. Here, the cool and damp coastal climate encourages a slow and gentle ageing process, producing aromas of great complexity and finesse.

Only every two or three years is a reserve of Port with sufficient structure, fruit and power to age is laid aside to age in oak casks. Those that have reached their peak after thirty years are then blended together for balance and finesse, and to ensure consistency of quality and style. The 30 year old tawny is one such wine.

Tasting notes: Deep, old gold colour with hints of dried fruit and honey offsetting the rich nutty aromas. Lush, silky richness with an elegant, slightly austere quality which is quite distinctive. Subtle dried fruit flavours underly, exotic layers of caramel and nuts culminating in an endless finish.

Serving Suggestions: It is an excellent accompaniment to many desserts. It combines well with flavours of figs, almonds and caramel. It is an excellent compliment for a crème brulée or a plate of wild strawberries. It may also be appreciated on its own, at the end of the meal, with walnuts or dried fruit, and can be served cool in the summer.

Taylor's is renowned as one of the most innovative Port houses, having pioneered the Late Bottled Vintage style, and also holds one of the largest reserves of cask-aged wines used to create their range of tawny Ports. Taylor's Vintage Ports are the cornerstone of the company's success and the main source of its unique and inimitable house style. Taylor's benefits from extensive ownership of grade A vineyard sites throughout the Douro, including Quinta de Vargellas, one of the… Read more

Beguiling concentrated flavours of dried nectarines and cherries, apricots and marmalade. Smoky tones perfume the nose. This is a seriously rich, mature, complex Tawny with a never ending finish.

Robert Parker (RP) : 94 Points (NV)
The NV 30 Year Old Tawny Port was bottled with a bar top cork in 2014. It comes in at 125.8 grams per liter of residual sugar. It isn't that I dislike the 20s or even younger Tawnies, but this shows what you get by stepping up. (Granted, the price is quite a step up, too.) This has that wonderful concentration of flavor, the molasses, the touch of treacle and the extra complexity that you don't always get with young Tawnies. Its combination of power, concentration and complexity also means that it lingers endlessly on the finish. It's one of those wines you will be able to smell on anything it touches for much of the evening. That's worth the price of admission for me. This is wonderfully constructed with that long, intensely flavorful finish. As with most such, it can hold indefinitely barring cork failure, but the bar top cork means that it is not really expected to be aged. Dig in. Make sure not to drink them too warm--60 degrees Fahrenheit or so works a lot better than 72 degrees Fahrenheit. These all come with a bar top cork, i.e., you can hold them indefinitely if you wish, barring cork problems, but they are not really intended to be aged. They, like pretty much all Tawnies, are considered ready to drink on release.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 93 Points (NV)
Suave and elegant, with lively acidity to the butterscotch, caramel, hazelnut and custard flavors, stretching into the plush midpalate. The long finish is spicy and fresh, showing notes of citrus rind. Drink now.
