Its name is taken from the wild shrub which covers the valleys around Lake Arancio with its yellow flowers in springtime. It is a single variety Grecanico, produced from the historic 25-year old Ulmo Vineyard, and thus able to express to the utmost the unique characteristics of this noble and ancient Sicilian grape.

Colour: pale straw with hints of green reflections

Nose: austere and polite. Aromas of ripe white melon and Etna white peach, followed by sweet sensations, white chocolate and meringue, a mineral component gradually appearing in the wine

Palate: the palate is thin but not too bulky, full and unexpectedly soft. A nice acidity nhances the freshness. Unpredictable finish with a return of dense flowery notes

Generous and crisp, this is a prototypical Sicilian dry white. A slew of Mediterranean herbs, but also citrus zest and some ripe nectarine. So much juicy fruit at the finish. Drink now.

Fresh and savory, this tangy white has inviting aromas of white grapefruit and yellow stone fruit. On the refreshing palate, vibrant acidity accompanies juicy apricot, tangerine and lemon drop candy before a tangy close.

The sweetly perfumed 2018 Il Bianco La Segreta mixes honeyed florals with ripe apples, apricots and hints of hazelnut to create a deeply seductive display. It’s silky-smooth with medium-bodied weight, offset by a wave of salty acids, minerals and citrus-infused green apple. The balance of richness and contrasting components dazzles the senses. This lingers long with a hint of custard while remaining perfectly refreshing. The 2019 Il Bianco, a blend of 50% Grecanico, 30% Chardonnay, 10% Viognier and 10% Fiano, punches well above its price point.

Fleeting mineral notes of white chalk open the bouquet of the 2018 Sicilia Menfi Alastro, but they soon cede to more lasting aromas of lemon blossom and summer peach. This is a very easy white wine to throw down with a couple of fried sardines and toasted bread with olive oil.

I love this fresh, modern take on an Etna white wine, with its controlled and precise nose of honey hints, white flowers and ripe limes. The palate is invigorating, juicy and lively. Full and rich but bursting with tangy, lime-juicy brightness. Vivacious and delicious.

Etna Bianco 2020

Tasting Note: Vibrant Sicilian white wine from volcanic soil, rounded, fruity and perfumed with yellow plums, white stone fruit and herbs.

Food Matching: A white wine for all seasons. Good as an aperitif, but excellent with starters based on fish and pasta.

Vinification: The grapes are picked into crates and are at once refrigerated at 8°C. After light crushing and destemming they are soft pressed. The decanted must is racked and inoculated with yeasts then ferments at 15°C for 20 days. The wine thus obtained remains on the lees until February with continuous mixing. 10% of the must is fermented in barriques. The wine is then matured in stainless steel tanks and Allier oak 225 litre barriques.
