Perpetual already reveals its elegance and harmony today and is notable for its great aromatic complexity. After the success of Torres' first Priorat wine, "Salmos", the family decided to make a flagship wine for the Priorat winery that would show its commitment to the area.

Perpetual is a wine born of time and the land. Old Garnacha and Cariñena vines planted on steep slopes of "licorella" slate form the essence of this wine from the Torres family estate. After a long ageing process, kept for 16 months in fine-grained French oak barrels, the bottles are finally laid down in the darkness of the small El Lloar winery until the desired balance is achieved.

Very dark, intense ruby colour. An aroma of preserves (cherry, blackberry) and spices on a highly characteristic mineral base. On the palate it has great volume with an admirable balance between the wine’s fruity density and its spicy notes acquired through ageing in new oak (cedar, toast).

During its prolonged, complex finish there’s also a hint of chocolate and tobacco.

The Torres family has been making wine in the ancient Catalán town of Vilafranca del Penedès, South-West of Barcelona, since the 19th Century. Its renowned tradition of combining innovation, dynamism and a commitment to high quality has put Torres firmly on the world map. Torres remains independent and family-owned, run by fourth and fifth generation members of the Torres family and is presided over by Miguel A. Torres Riera. Miguel A. Torres Riera has been described as "one… Read more

Robert Parker (RP) : 92 Points (2016)
The polished and sleek 2016 Perpetual has more of the slate character from the Priorat soil, with notes of graphite, berries and Mediterranean herbs. It's an old-vine blend of 80% Cariñena and 20% Garnacha that fermented in stainless steel vat with indigenous yeasts and an élevage of 18 months in new French oak barrels. It doesn't feel like there's a lot of new oak here, which is good in my book. The palate is medium to full-bodied with abundant, slightly dusty tannins, some rusticity and a dry, serious finish. It was bottled in June 2018.

James Suckling (JS) : 93 Points (2015)
A tight, clean and linear red with dark berry, licorice and dark chocolate flavors. Medium body, silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Pretty texture.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 92 Points (2015)
Spicy black-fruit aromas are potent, with side notes of clove, lemon peel and charred wood. This is lush, clean and modern in style. Fully ripe blackberry and cassis flavors come with an underlay of chocolaty oak. On a smooth finish, tobacco flavors stand out. Drink through 2023.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 92 Points (2013)
This red is ripe and dense, but remains balanced and graceful. The plush texture carries blackberry, toast, cocoa and mineral flavors, while balsamic acidity and well-integrated tannins lend structure and focus. Drink now through 2023.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 91 Points (2013)
Superconcentrated, ripe, full of flavors of candied fruits, exotic spices and a layer of slaty minerality, this is the top wine of Torres in Priorat. A blend of garnacha and cariñena, all from old vines, it’s a little tannic monster that needs a decade to show complexity.
