Violet, rose, ripe berry and minty aromas mingle with earthy whiffs of truffle, leather and game. The delicious, juicy palate doles out fleshy Marasca cherry, crushed black raspberry, licorice and tobacco framed in chewy, fine-grained tannins.Editor's Choice

Robert Parker (RP) : 92 Points (2015)
This is a blend of Nebbiolo with about half of the fruit sourced in the Cerequio vineyard and the rest coming from other parcels, including some plantings in the Novello township. The Cerequio fruit itself comes from 30-year-old vines. This vintage shows a touch of extra sweetness and richness with blackberry, summer cherry and spice. The style achieved in the 2015 Barolo Tortoniano is an immediate and accessible one. This is a great choice for lovers of Italian wine who are only beginning to experiment with the great wines of Piedmont.

James Suckling (JS) : 90 Points (2015)
Some more savory aromas lead the nose here with game, leather and crushed rose petals, as well as fresh, woody notes and cherries. The palate has a swathe of brisk acidity, driving fresh red fruit and a strong thread of fine, juicy tannins. Assertive, long finish.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 91 Points (2013)
Aromatic and silky, this red delivers macerated cherry, raspberry, rose petal and mineral flavors. Balanced and soft, with gentle tannins and fine length. Best from 2020 through 2032.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 90 Points (2013)
Oct 2017 - Chiarlo's 2013 Barolo is bold and powerful in the glass. Super-ripe dark cherry, smoke, sweet spice, licorice and tobacco give the wine much of its up-front appeal. Although not especially complex, the 2013 will drink well right out of the gate, which makes it an excellent choice for readers who can't cellar wines for the long term. This is an especially succulent, plush style for the year.

Jancis Robinson (JR) : 17 Points (2011)
Dec 2014 - Medium-dark ruby with orange tinges. Classic nose of dried cherry and spice and oatmeal. Super inviting. Herbs too, hint of pepper. Wonderful, supple fruit with firm tannins. Quite a pretty wine and well balanced. (WS)

Friulano is a grape variety that has been growing in Friuli since 1600s. It is also known as Sauvignon Vert and may have a nettle and gooseberry character. Livio Felluga’s wine is beautifully balanced and the palate signs off with a characteristic bitter almond finish.
