Unique to the House of Krug, every Krug Vintage is crafted to be different, to reveal the expression of a particular year. A year with character, a year with a special story to tell in a way that Krug alone can relate. Krug Vintage is the story of that year as seen by Krug; there are as many stories as there are Krug Vintages.

Tasting notes: Beautiful, intense golden colour that begins to reveal the year. Aromas of caramel, nougat, hazelnut, freshly baked pastries fresh from the oven. Flavours of citrus-fruit gratins, lime zest with a very long finish and persistence.

The expression of the year 2000 captured by Krug: a story of indulgence:

  • Krug 2000 is a “tour de force” that succeeds in being rich, precise and complete all at once.
  • Krug 2000 is one of the most intense of Krug’s Vintage Champagnes, as 2000 has to be classified among the warmest years in which Krug created Vintages, all of which revealed themselves to be great Champagnes (1947, 1959, 1976, 1982, 1989).
  • It takes its place alongside Krug’s other cuvees, which have made Krug the world’s best-rated Champagne for years.

Like all Krug Champagnes, it can age beautifully.

James Suckling (JS) : 95 Points (2003)
July, 2015. A rich nose with deep, ripe chardonnay and pinot noir, red fruits, some dark mushrooms and plenty of grilled nuts, plus caramel, some deep spices, dried citrus, lemon peel and bready aromas. The trademark complexity is here and it freshens with air. The palate is intricately detailed and stitched together like needlework; very precise, very even. The acidity is articulated with some finesse and yet it has much more in terms of phenolics as the leading structural component. The phenolics are rich and ripe, sitting polished and even around immensely concentrated fruit with flavors of peach, nectarine and white cherry. The finish is deep, even and resonant. Drink now but rest assured it will hold for a very long time, just like Krug has proven in other warm years like '76.

Decanter (DCT) : 98 Points (2002)
The Krug 2002 vintage Champagne is a mix of bright Welsh gold and pale green lights and has a perfect flow of tiny bubbles. What aromatics – spring flowers from well-sited Pinot Meunier, and exoticism in the Chardonnay. The beating heart of the wine is powerful, poised and very complex Pinot Noir, still biding its time to majestically unfold. Magnificent.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 96 Points (2002)
Beautifully aromatic, this leads with aromas of ground clove, coffee liqueur and mandarin orange peel, adding crystallized honey, dried cherry, acacia blossom and toasted brioche notes on the expansive palate. Rich in flavor and broad in structure, with verve driving this through to the long, satiny finish. Drink now through 2027.

Jancis Robinson (JR) : 19 Points (2000)
Dense and wonderfully complex. Still extremely tight-knit. Classic Krug vintage and a big contrast with the more open and oleaginous 2003. Extremely vivacious. This was a hot year but not excessively so - with storms mid August. Lighter and fresher than the 2003 and surely with a very long life.

Robert Parker (RP) : 95 Points (2000)
The Krug vintage 2000 Brut smells strikingly redolent of sea breeze, kelp, and piles of oyster and mussel shells, allied to lemon oil and toasted hazelnuts. On the palate, the aforementioned elements serve for compulsive salivation, while a lusciously juicy amalgam of lime, grapefruit and apple tinged with piquancy of their pips buoys the salty wave of mineral matter into a profoundly protracted finish that bursts with brightness and at the same time reveals mouthwateringly savory crab shell reduction and a hitherto largely hidden dark side of smoky Latakia tobacco, dark-roasted coffee, and toasted grains. Expect this to merit following for 12-15 years.

Aged for 25 years, Collection 1990 is striking in its opulence and freshness. Collection 1990 is the second incarnation of Krug 1990. One of only three vintages to be held back in Krug’s cellars after the original release, this champagne is powerful, elegant and distinctive.

Very attractive already, quite powerful nose. Full bodied wine with intensity, depth and beautiful mineral flavour. Rich, ripe acidity in the palate. Great personality and finesse. Full of charm already after nearly 4 years of bottle ageing.
