Lady May is Glenelly’s Flagship Estate wine.

Elegant and complex, the wine develops flavours of cassis, blackcurrant, dark cherry, touch of graphite and delicate spicy plum. Fresh and vibrant, the evolution of the wine introduces flavours specific to Glenelly’s terroir.

Deeply coloured and perfectly balanced, the wine displays an exquisite structure with velvety tannins and a very good aging capability.

Can age during 12 to 18 years.

Robert Parker (RP) : 94 Points (2017)

The 2017 Lady May is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with splashes of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The nose opens with a juicy and generously structured frame with oak essences and spiced black fruit elements. Medium to full-bodied, the palate provides sweet oak flavors with a firm tannic edge before melting away to reveal a fine mineral tension and bright acidity. This beauty has plenty of life left in it and will have no problem aging for a couple more decades. Bravo!

Intense aromas of ripe black fruit, pine cones, cedar wood, cocoa and wet stones. Plush and broad-shouldered, with full body, dusty tannins and a velvety texture. Generous and complex, with ripe dark fruit on offer and a lingering finish. A blend of 90% cabernet sauvignon, 6% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot. Sustainable. Drink or hold.

Raspberry jam and rosemary aromas form an attractive nose. The wine's soft but firm tannins support notes of raspberry, cherry, herbs and smoke. Toasted oak flavors are integrated in this enjoyable full-bodied red.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 92 Points (2016)

This wine grows at an east-facing vineyard on the Glenelly estate. A blend of cabernet sauvignon with small amounts of other Bordeaux varieties, it’s firing on all cylinders at the moment. Aromas of green herbs lead into blueberry, ripe-cherry and cherry-pit flavors. The fruit comes together with snappy tannins and currant-tinged acidity, creating a powerful, silky wine, fruit-forward but not fruit-first.

Decanter (DCT) : 94 Points (2013)

Cabernet Sauvignon is now down to 85% in this wine, joined by 7% Cabernet Franc and 4% each of Petit Verdot and Merlot. As opposed to the hot, ripe 2012 vintage this was a much more Bordeaux-esque one, with a cold wet winter, a long, cool spring and then a warm, dry summer. Picked a little earlier than normal to avoid overripeness, this is reflected in the wine, which has wonderfully vibrant acidity, firm tannins and integrated spiced oak to support a generous core of bright purple-berried fruit. Inky, juicy and supple this is still very youthful, with only the merest hint of savoury umami characters coming through. Very characterful. (TG) (8/2020)

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 93 Points (2013)

The 2013 Lady May is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot matured in 100% new barriques for 24 months. It has a nicely detailed bouquet of blackberry, cedar and pencil lead aromas, and the Cabernet Franc component is quite expressive. The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannin, underpinned by a very fine line of acidity. The pure blackberry, blueberry and graphite-infused finish lingers in the mouth. Of the 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 , the 2013 is the best vintage. Excellent. (NM) (9/2018)

The latest in a trio of very impressive releases from Glenelly, this is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% Petit Verdot. It’s a structured, well-balanced, smoky cuvée that combines freshness with concentration and latent power. The tannins are very fine indeed.
