Rich cherry and plum fruit that is spiced with oak notes of cinnamon and clove. Sitting below the fruit, earthen and mineral smokiness, which is lifted by hedonistic floral notes.

Decadently sweet fruited and richly textured. The density of the wine is counter balanced by bright acidity and supple tannins.

Robert Parker (RP) : 91 Points (2015)
A 50-50 blend of fruit from Northburn and Bannockburn (Cloudy Bay leases a portion of the Calvert Vineyard), the 2015 Te Wahi Pinot Noir is a full-bodied, plummy wine. It shows some pretty florals on the nose, but the palate is chocolaty and rich, offering hints of cola and dark-skinned plums. It's powerful and plush, with a velvety texture and lingering finish, almost verging on Californian (Russian River Valley?) in style.

Bob Campbell MW (BC) : 96 Points (2014)
Dense and flavoursome pinot noir with succulent dark cherry, violet, dark-fleshed plum and a strong influence of nutty oak supported by a backbone of ripe tannins that leave a drying finish. An initial velvet texture with a peppery finish. Good drinking now but will certainly develop with bottle age.

James Suckling (JS) : 93 Points (2014)
A fragrant, floral pinot that is a blend of the Calvert and Northburn Station Vineyards in Central Otago. Notes of sappy and stone-flecked red-cherry fruits with spicy and smoky complexity; the palate is succulently ripe and has a handy freshness. Long-layered tannins abound with plenty of juicy plum and dark-cherry flavors. Drink now.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 92 Points (2014)
The tannins are velvety, firm and dense, lending intensity to the fresh earth, white pepper, bright cherry and raspberry flavors at the core. Earl Grey tea and licorice notes linger on the finish. Drink now through 2026.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 90 Points (2014)
Cloudy Bay's latest vintage is the first from their own vineyards in Central Otago and reflects a step up in quality despite a challenging vintage. Plummy fruit dominates the rather chunky wine, framed by hints of toast and dried herbs, while moderately dusty tannins and bright acids mark the finish. Drink 2018–2025.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 90 Points (2014)
A very New Zealand take on pinot noir, this starts out reductive, herbal and blunt, then opens to velvety tannins and rich red fruit that carries some passion-fruit thiols. Decant it for roast beef.
