The result of the Allegrini family‘s expertise, this is a true classic of the appellation, a wine that embraces tradition and a sense of place.  The wine has an imposing structure and depth, as much in its aromas of mature fruit and spices, as on the palate, where alcohol is sustained by balanced acidity and refined tannins.
Across the range and from vintage to vintage, they have superb fruit, balance, intensity, length, elegance, tipicity and, above all, drinkability. Allegrini history Each wine has winemaker Franco Allegrini’s distinct stamp of quality, but every one has its own distinctive character. They are among the elite of the world’s best producers of red wines. The family has been growing grapes in Valpolicella for several generations, and the estate in its current form was founded by… Read more

Hattingley’s rosé is elegant, fresh and downright delicious. The color of ballerina slippers, it opens with delicate aromas of fresh strawberry, raspberry and grapefruit. They’re backed by richer ones like vanilla and baker’s yeast. The palate is wonderfully refreshing, with bubbles that prickle and bounce over the whole tongue right through to the tart red berry finish.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 93 Points (2018)
Cocoa, cinnamon and clove come together with crushed plums and balsam herbs as the 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico blossoms in the glass. This is silky and enveloping yet cool-toned in feel, with depths of dark red fruits nicely contrasted by a core of saline minerality. The 2018 finishes structured and long, tugging at the palate with grippy tannins as hints of Baker's chocolate and inner rose slowly fade. This is a vertical and racy edition of Allegrini Amarone, but it will require some time to come fully into focus. (EG) 93+ (12/2022)

James Suckling (JS) : 93 Points (2018)
A very well-made Amarone that shows good poise and dryness on the palate, with black chocolate, cigars, dark raspberry jam, wax and graphite. Lots of silky, melted tannins on the medium-to full-bodied palate, before an elegant and dry finish. Excellent length. Sustainable. Still needs some time for extra complexity to come through.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 92 Points (2018)
Macerated black cherries bathed in a mixture of cloves, cinnamon, thyme and pepper waft out of the glass, inviting you to delve deeper. The silky-smooth palate is full of plums and cherries, cocoa powder and freshly ground coffee. The wine is balanced with fine tannins and enough acidity to keep the palate fresh for the next glass.

Robert Parker (RP) : 94 Points (2017)
The Allegrini 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico shows dark fruit and spice that all point to the hot and dry conditions of this vintage. The wine is balanced with a good amount of dark fruit intensity but no overtly jammy or baked fruit. That dense fruit wraps thickly over the palate, supported by backend aromas of charred spice and campfire embers. This is a blend of 45% Corvina Veronese, 45% Corvinone, 5% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta with 120 days of appassimento.

Decanter (DCT) : 93 Points (2016)
Allegrini's Amarone brings together grapes from hillside estate vineyards in the Classico zone, predominantly around the town of Fumane. It is rounded out with 5% Oseleta which amps up both colour and tannins. Vanilla, cedar and cherry are upfront and the oak is prominent yet polished. This is a compact, chewy Amarone that really bursts with dried cherry and plum skin on the long finish. It could do with a few years in the bottle to assimilate but has the backbone and concentration to age a decade beyond that. Drinking Window 2023 - 2033

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 92 Points (2015)
Despite the warm, dry growing season of 2015, this shows fresh scents of lavender and wild thyme that lift the wine’s densely concentrated flavors of black plum and baked raspberry. Layers of dark chocolate, black olive and espresso add dimension, while a note of peppery spice lingers on the finish.
