Tim Atkin (TA) : 94 Points (2017)
Three different Franschhoek vineyards, planted in 1902, 1936 and 1942, make up the blend of this impressive, ageworthy Semillon, fermented in 80% new wood and blended with 3% Muscat d'Alexandrie. Waxy, broad and textured at first on the palate, with prominent wood spice, it tightens on the finish, coming over all crisp and grapefruity. 2020-27

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 91 Points (2017)
The 2017 Sémillon, which has a 3% splash of Muscat of Alexandria, is made with an oxidative winemaking approach. It has a neutral nose, one where I would have liked more Sémillon character to poke through even at this early stage. The palate shows much more potential, presenting lovely lemon curd, toffee apple and white chocolate notes. The acidity is nicely judged, although that toffee note makes me wonder exactly how this will age. A second bottle showed less conspicuous toffee-ish notes and was much more in line with how I expect the wineto show. My score is based on this bottle.

Robert Parker (RP) : 89+ Points (2017)
The nose of the 2017 Semillon has a soft mineral edge to the citrus blossom and hints of pineapple, and it's leesy and pleasurable, with complex aromatics of cheese rind, blanched almonds and pineapple blossoms. The palate has a rich texture with a firm mouthfeel, while the oak and concrete egg fermenters add to the depth and complexity of the wine. The medium to long finish is bright and zippy, leaving the palate clean and showing a focused structure that is in balance. 12,000 bottles were made to tell the story of the old vines of the Franschhoek Valley.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 93 Points (2016)
This is pure and very focused, with a streamlined feel to the mix of tangerine, white peach, persimmon and singed almond notes, carried by vibrant but seamlessly integrated acidity. Shows steely cut on the finish for now, and should unwind slowly in the cellar. Sémillon and Muscat of Alexandria. Best from 2021 through 2028.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 89 Points (2014)
This is currently closed and shy, offering subtle scents of yellow apple, musk melon, white peach and toasted spice. The round, mouthfilling palate boasts more concentration and decadence, with rich flavors of melon, clove-spiked orange and crusty brioche. Try 2019–2023.

Decanter (DCT) : 95 Points (2013)
Ageworthy, from vines more than 100 years old. Waxy lemon richness underpinned by fresh acidity from a bit of Sauvignon Blanc. Drink 2016-2023.
