The nose opens with dark wild berries and cherry and pleasant floral notes of lilac and chocolate, while the spicy component emerges with nuances of clove and green peppercorn. The palate is characterized by a distinct tactile approach in which the stamp of the terroir is underlined by a lively minerality. The finish echoes the intense fruity notes of dark wild berries.

James Suckling (JS) : 94 Points (2015)
What a pretty interplay between blackcurrants, boysenberries, spices, cedar and pine cones. Full-bodied but ever so delicate with a finely woven texture of taut tannins, running through layers of finely tuned blue and red fruit. Long and elegant on the finish. Best ever? Delicious now but better in 2021.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 91 Points (2015)
Red-berry, blue-flower, tobacco, scorched earth and leather aromas slowly take shape on this polished red. The linear palate offers dried cherry, currant, ground clove and a hint of coffee alongside taut close-grained tannins. Showing the warmth of the vintage, it’s already accessible. Drink through 2022.

Robert Parker (RP) : 91 Points (2013)
The 2013 Chianti Rufina Riserva Nipozzano is a soft and supple red wine that proudly displays its winemaking pedigree. There are no rough edges here. Instead, this wine offers a seamless link of red cherry, spice and toasted nut aromas. The mouthfeel is on the lean side, but the wine is immediately approachable and easy to pair with any kind of grilled meat dish.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 88 Points (2013)
Gently oaky, with spice and resin elements accenting the core of cherry, leather and bitter almond flavors. Elegant and balanced toward the lean side, showing fine length. Best from 2018 through 2024.

For centuries, farmers made offerings in hope for a miracle – as Amalaya translates in the local language – for a bountiful harvest. It is located at 1,800 meters above sea level, in the Calchaqui Valley, northwest of Argentina. The region stands out as one of the highest vineyards in the world, characterized by its dry climate with no more than 150 mm annual rainfall, with significant thermal amplitude; rocky and sandy soil.
