Casa Marin's Litoral Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021 hails from the Lo Abarca region within the San Antonio Valley, Chile. The vineyards are situated just 4 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, benefiting from a cool coastal climate. This proximity to the ocean ensures a moderated temperature with morning fogs and spring frosts, which contribute to the distinct character of the wine. The vines, planted in loam and sandy soils, are 13 years old, and the grapes are handpicked in early April.
Casa Marin's founder, Maria Luz Marin, has been a pioneering force in Chilean winemaking, establishing the vineyards in a region previously thought unsuitable for viticulture. Her determination has led Casa Marin to be recognized for producing world-class wines.
Winemaking Process: The winemaking process is meticulous, starting with hand-sorting the grapes to eliminate any unwanted materials. The grapes undergo a cold maceration for three days before spontaneous fermentation begins at 24-25°C, lasting for 10 days with daily punch downs. The wine is then transferred by gravity into French barrels where it undergoes spontaneous malolactic fermentation and is aged for 12 months in 100% old French oak barrels.
