Jeb Dunnuck (JD) : 94 Points (2016)
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate comes from the Santa Cruz Mountain estate, and it follows its big brother Monte Bello's style with a terrific sense of elegance paired with richness. Lots of crème de cassis, crushed violets, vanilla, tobacco leaf, and cedar notes flow to a medium to full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, layered Cabernet Sauvignon that has terrific purity, building tannin, and a great finish. It offers pleasure today yet won't hit prime time for another 5-7 years, and it's going to evolve for 15-20 years (probably longer).

James Suckling (JS) : 94 Points (2016)
Aromas of blackcurrants, black tea, iodine, some plums and mushrooms, following through to a medium to full body, chewy yet polished tannins and a long, long finish. It builds on the palate. This needs at least two or three years to soften, but already a beauty. Really excellent. Drink after 2021.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 94 Points (2016)
Once again an overachiever, Ridge's 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is regal. Aromatically intense and deep on the palate, the 2016 proves to be utterly captivating from the very first taste. Dark fruit, chocolate, licorice, dried flowers, leather and menthol infuse the 2016 with remarkable complexity. In 2016, the last year of the drought cycle Ridge made one of the very best editions of this wine. Just as remarkably, the 2016 is incredibly harmonious for such a young wine. (AG) (10/2019)

Wine Spectator (WS) : 92 Points (2016)
Reveals a singed cedar frame around a core of gently steeped plum and blackberry fruit, with notes of violet, bay leaf and charcoal filling in on the finish. Structured and toothy now, but should round into form soon enough, as the fruit is very vibrant. Best from 2021 through 2030

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 90 Points (2016)
Ridge collectors may remember the Jimsomare cabernets that Paul Draper made until 1997. They came from a property on Monte Bello Road that Pierre Klein had originally planted to cabernet in the late 19th century, and was replanted in the 1970s. When Ridge signed a long-term lease on the vineyard in 1996, the fruit became part of the Monte Bello blend. The 2016 is the first separate bottling from the site in two decades. The site is lower in elevation than others in the Monte Bello collection, with wider shifts between day and nighttime temperatures, generating a redfruited cabernet with an oceanic freshness and an acidity that feels pithy. It’s tight and reductive (a little youthfully stinky), needing five years or more to begin to show its best.

Decanter (DCT) : 95 Points (2015)
Made with fruit sourced from Ridge's famous low yielding Monte Bello Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA, the Ridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon was first produced in 2008, and offers an earlier drinking alternative to the Monte Bello itself. The unique vineyard is composed of green stone and clay soils, over decomposing limestone, and is located only 15 miles from the Pacific Ocean. A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon spends 18 months in American oak barrels, 45% of which are new. (Panel Tasting) (9/2019)

Robert Parker (RP) : 92 Points (2015)
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (which hails from the Monte Bello Vineyard) is already quite expressive, revealing aromas of blackcurrant, ripe cherries, cigar box and burning embers, framed by a judicious application of new oak. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, supple and nicely balanced, with fine-grained tannins, a good core of ripe fruit and a pure finish. While the Estate Cabernet is explicitly crafted to be approachable in its youth, this should be well worth following for the next 15 years. The 2015 blend is 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc.

Un vin frais et élégant. Robe rubis.
