More information on wine critics and ratings
The wines of El Enemigo are meant to give a flavour of Argentina’s wine history while at the same time pushing new boundaries. Although wine has been in Argentina for centuries, it is only comparatively recently that their wines have reached the same quality levels as the Old World. The winemakers at El Enemigo wanted to make light of the fact Argentina has embraced both aspects of modern winemaking, fresh and fruity New World style wines as well as classic “Old World” style… Read more

James Suckling (JS) : 92 Points (2016)
A fresh and focused red with cherry, balsamic and floral character. Medium to full body, soft tannins and a flavorful finish. Clean.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 90 Points (2016)
Elegant, with hot stone notes accenting the pure-tasting dried red fruit flavors. Details of underbrush emerge on the focused finish, showing some tarry hints. Drink now through 2024.

Robert Parker (RP) : 93 Points (2015)
Fermented with full clusters, the 2015 El Enemigo Malbec feels a bit closed and has a reductive personality, so decanting in advance could be a good idea. It's taken from four hectares in the Adrianna Vineyard in Gualtallary and was co-fermented with a bit of Cabernet Franc. This is a serious, subtle and mineral Malbec, with some austerity and a nicely textured palate. This is a serious red, only eclipsed by the Gran Enemigo bottlings. It's not really about the variety, even though it has the best Malbec grapes, as they do not have any other pure Malbec; it's mineral and precise, vertical and very fresh for 2015. 22,800 bottles produced. Rating: 93+

Decanter (DCT) : 92 Points (2014)
Intense dried fruits and liquorice lead to a lovely vanilla oak and dark cherry character. Soft, polished and long.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 93 Points (2013)
In 2009, Adrianna Catena, the youngest daughter of Nicolas Catena, joined forces with winemaker Alejandro Vigil to found Bodegas Aleanna. They’ve based their project on Adrianna Vineyard, a vineyard Catena planted around 1996, in the heights of Gualtallary. This 2013 reflects the cool temperatures of the area in the radiance of the fresh fruit and its crisp texture, propelled by an acidity so virile it nearly vibrates. Give the wine another five years in the cellar, so those flavors can evolve beyond fruitiness.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 91 Points (2013)
Stout bold berry aromas come with a hint of bacon. This feels condensed, with rubbery, pinchy tannins. Flavors of plum and wild berry are tightly wound, while this is long and loud on the finish, with a recurrence of abrasive tannins. Drink through 2020.

Intense gold in colour with tints of green. On the nose this wine is intense and complex with aromas of citrus and grapefruit typical of Torrontes. Delicate and silky on the palate with great freshness and crisp acidity on the distinctly mineral finish.

The wine has a wonderful viscosity, mouth coating and pleasantly creamy, but with an exciting streak of minerally acidity that leaves us wanting more.
