Earthy aromas recalling new leather, truffle, blue flowers and eucalyptus are just some of the scents you’ll find on this savory red. Elegantly structured, the tightly knit yet weightless palate delivers ripe Marasca cherry, crushed mint and star anise before finishing on notes of black tea and white pepper. It’s loaded with finesse and personality. Drink 2027–2037

Robert Parker (RP) : 96 Points (2016)
The 2016 Barolo Cerequio is born in the vineyard cru that best represents the excellent winemaking efforts of the Michele Chiarlo team. The estate owns a beautiful boutique hotel and restaurant in the middle of the vineyard and fittingly uses this spot for most public functions. This is a terrific expression, showing the power and balance of the vintage with pretty accents of wild fruit, rose and dark earth that render volume and intensity to the wine's overall performance. Rating : 96+

James Suckling (JS) : 95 Points (2016)
Loads of roasted chestnuts, glazed cherries, licorice and dried rosemary. Excellent depth and concentration here; think dried berries and forest floor. Tightly strung with raw, powerful tannins and lots of flavor. Long and chewy on the finish.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 94 Points (2016)
The 2016 Barolo Cerequio is a big, powerful wine. Chiarlo has chosen to bring out a bit more power and density than Cerequio seems naturally predisposed to, but it all works well. Black cherry, spice, leather, licorice and menthol all flesh out with some coaxing. The new oak tannins are pushed to the maximum, but it all works. Drinking window: 2024 - 2036

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 91 Points (2015)
This wine aged in tonneaux for two years, gaining notes of sweet spice and toasted vanilla that enrich the warm strawberry and cherry flavors. It feels plush and ripe, ready for a rich braised lamb shoulder.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 92 Points (2013)
A tightly wound version, whose dense matrix of tannins binds the cherry, licorice, tobacco and iron flavors. All the elements are in the right proportions and should come together nicely in time. Offers fine sweet fruit and a licorice aftertaste. Best from 2023 through 2040. 1,250 cases made.

A sweet and juicy Barbera, bursting with vibrant red-berried fruit and layered by floral hints and a touch of spice. An elegant wine which is well-structured, beautifully balanced and has a very pleasant, fresh finish.
