This wine is bright yellow in colour with youthful hues. The nose is intense with typical aromas of mint, citrus peel, vanilla, liquorice, gunpowder, thyme and marjoram. These are complemented by tropical notes and intriguing balsamic and mineral characters. The wine is well balanced, full and elegant with a pleasant acidity and a quintessential bitter almond aftertaste integrated with the balsamic note on the long finish.

James Suckling (JS) : 92 Points (2017)
An unusually fragrant, floral and elegant dry white for this appellation in 2017. I love the fruit-salad juiciness on the palate and the long, clean finish.

Robert Parker (RP) : 90 Points (2017)
The 2017 Friuli Colli Orientali Friulano is a well-priced, accessible and versatile wine, but don't underestimate its understated sophistication. You get a very pure and direct interpretation of Friulano, one of Italy's most distinctive white grapes, with generous aromas of stone fruit, melon, saffron and pear. This is a lean-bodied wine, but there is enough inner fiber and substance to keep the wine from ever feeling too thin or short. In fact, the intensity is just right.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 90 Points (2016)
This feels warm and hefty, almost like a pear-almond smoothie in its creamy texture and fruit flavors. Mild acidity and watermelon-rind greenness accent the rich texture, leading to a balanced and precise finish.

Cont’Ugo is produced entirely with Merlot as a new interpretation of the Bolgheri territory. The vineyards grow at an altitude that varies between 45 and 60 meters (147/196 feet) above sea level on clay-loam soils that are of alluvial origin that give the wine deep complex notes while preserving the fragrance and freshness typical of Merlot berries.
