A deep, intense reddish-violet colour. The nose offers aromas of spice and black fruit intermingled with notes of black pepper, tobacco, and roasted red pepper, resulting in a highly complex blend.

The palate unfolds with subtle notes of truffle, cocoa, and toasted coffee accompanied by smooth, voluminous tannins, giving this wine a great structure that fills the palate, creating a beautiful balance of fruit and oak.

A wine with great depth and an incredible, prolonged finish.

Origins The Errazuriz Estate was founded in 1870 when Don Maximiano Errazuriz planted his first vineyards at Panquehue in the Aconcagua Valley - 100km North of the capital. Recognising that this valley, with its cool, rainy winters, hot, dry summers and moist Pacific Ocean breezes, was ideal for growing grapes, Don Maximiano sent for the finest clones from France and with tenacity and perseverance transformed this barren land into a world class vineyard. Today, the tradition of quality lives… Read more

James Suckling (JS) : 92 Points (2011)
A juicy red with chocolate, berry and hints of toasted oak. Fresh herbs. Full body, with fine tannins and a savory and salty finish. This is one of the best known carmeneres. A delicious carmenere to drink now and age.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 91 Points (2011)
Despite cool growing conditions in 2011, this version of Kai shows raisiny, fully ripe aromas of loamy blackberry combined with graphite. A rich palate is grounded by good acidity, while flavors of lemony oak, olive, mocha and vanilla work alongside core berry. On the finish, chocolaty notes blend with residual black-fruit flavors. Drink through 2018.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 90 Points (2011)
Offers a deeply spiced aroma, with French roast notes to the chewy dark fruit and pemmican flavors, accented by hints of green olive and slate. The dense finish is firmly tannic.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 93 Points (2010)
Inky purple. Exotic spice- and smoke-accented black and blue fruits on the nose. Lush, palate-coating licorice and dark fruit compote flavors are complicated by notes of black tea and bitter chocolate. Sweet, pliant tannins add gentle grip to the plush, seamless, extremely long finish. Year in and out this is Chile's finest example of carmenere.

Robert Parker (RP) : 92 Points (2010)
The 2010 Kai is the purest Carmenere to date (96%) and the first to employ 90% new oak instead of 100%. It has ripe vanilla-y oak on the nose, but good delineation with layers of primal plum and cassis fruit. The palate is sweet and grippy on the entry with powerful black fruit laced with dark chocolate and a touch of mint. There is good weight and greater symmetry than the 2009. The finish has fine tension: reserved and masculine. Excellent. Drink now-2018.
