Ruby red in colour with a restrained, elegant nose. Perfumes of dark cherry and liquorice give way to spice and plums on the palate.

Rounded tannins from the Sangiovese are lifted by the cassis concentration of the Cabernet and melt into a long, perfumed finish.

Robert Parker (RP) : 94 Points (2016)
Made with organic fruit, the 2016 Carmignano Villa di Capezzana is an 80/20 blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is open and accessible, showing a graceful and pure quality of fruit with dark cherry, blackberry, spice, tar and tobacco. The mouthfeel is streamlined and compact, but what this wine lacks in power it makes up for in elegance. This sample from 2016 was sent along with a bottle from 2010 so that I could track its impressive bottle evolution. In fact, I widened my suggested drinking window after tasting that older bottle.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 93 Points (2016)
This pretty red features rose, cherry, strawberry and mineral flavors, staying lean and toned, with terrific balance and energy on the long finish. The mineral element prevails. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Decanter (DCT) : 95 Points (2015)
Mainly Sangiovese. Has an enticing nose with ripe red and black fruits and a floral perfume. Firm tannins but a lovely texture and understated oak. Plenty of future.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 94 Points (2015)
The 2015 Carmignano Villa di Capezzana is bright, lifted and full of personality. Sweet red berry fruit, blood orange, mint, sage and dried flowers all grace this juicy, mid-weight wine. The 2015 is impeccably balanced and a joy to taste.

James Suckling (JS) : 93 Points (2015)
Fascinating aromas of blueberries, orange peel and watermelon following through to a full body. Round and juicy tannins and a flavorful finish. Lots of toasted oak showing now, but it should come out beautifully with bottle age. Made from organically grown grapes

Jeb Dunnuck (JD) : 90 Points (2015)
Including 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, the Sangiovese-dominated 2015 Carmignano Villa Di Capezzana was aged all in French oak and held in bottle for a short period prior to release. This spicy, peppery, and black cherry-fruited effort is medium-bodied, has a round, nicely textured mouthfeel, light tannins, and a good finish. It's an outstanding blend that should evolve for a decade.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 90 Points (2013)
Black-skinned fruit and cedar aromas come together in this blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The fresh, structured palate delivers juicy black plum, tobacco and white pepper notes over a frame of chewy tannins. Enjoy through 2020. (KO) (4/2017)

This wine is a bolder style than Ata Rangi's flagship Pinot Noir. The nose has rich, spicy aromas with a hint of manuka flower. On the palate, velvety tannins are supported by savoury flavours with a juicy and complex finish.

Antinori Guado al Tasso Matarocchio 2017
Antinori Guado al Tasso Matarocchio 2017

Il Matarocchio was inspired by the desire to create, at the Guado al Tasso estate, a wine that was the maximum expression both of a single grape variety and a single vineyard plot. Il Matarocchio was born precisely from one of these sites and is a wine of great elegance and depth, one which springs exclusively from its source of origin and from a remarkable vintage.
