Robert Parker (RP) : 97 Points (2018)
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon S.L.V., a barrel sample, reveals a deep garnet-purple color and expressive notions of blackberry preserves, black cherry coulis and warm cassis with suggestions of eucalyptus, dark chocolate, lavender and tobacco leaf. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is tightly wound with black fruit and savory layers, supported by a rock-solid frame of grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and lifted.Barrel Sample: 95-97

James Suckling (JS) : 97 Points (2018)
This is one of the best SLVs I have tasted with total balance and structure that highlights what was possible in 2018. It’s full-bodied, yet tight and poised, with layer upon layer of fine tannins that give depth and beauty to this young red. Blackcurrant, blueberry and floral flavors. Tight at the end. Needs until 2025 to really show what it has.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 94 Points (2018)
Polished and open at first, showing a fan-friendly set of creamed plum and warmed cassis flavors, laced with melted licorice and sweet toast accents. Features alder and warm earth hints that check in on the finish, adding extra range and length while giving the fruit a grounded feel in the end. Very solidly built. Drink now through 2038.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 93 Points (2017)
The rocky hillside soils of S.L.V. produced a dark and savory cabernet in 2017, with peppery intensity that feels driven by alcohol at first. Then, as it settles and integrates, the alcohol becomes part of the dynamic whole, layered into the tannins to highlight their dark-chocolate succulence. It’s generous with blackberry fruit that still carries its youthful grapiness, structured to age and evolve over the next ten years.

Decanter (DCT) : 93 Points (2017)
Warren Winiarski planted the SLV Vineyard in 1970 and just three years later produced the wine that would infamously go on to triumph over the other lauded reds in the 1976 Judgement of Paris. This site produces a more punchy, weighty Cabernet than that of the Fay vineyard next door. It’s sappy, brambly and pointed on the nose, displaying the warmth of the 2017 vintage. The palate is black-fruited, with dusty tannins and a long, dry finish. Decidedly ripe but retains a classic firm structure. Drinking Window 2020 - 2040

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 94 Points (2016)
Graphite, flint and toasted oak accent a core of brawny, concentrated black fruit in this estate red. Clove, black currant, cigar box and firm, structured tannins contribute to the classic nature of this well-made wine. Enjoy 2026–2031.

Jeb Dunnuck (JD) : 95 Points (2014)
All from the estate S.L.V. Vineyard in Stages Leap and aged 21 months in 90% new French oak, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon S.L.V. sports a deep purple/ruby color to go with a Saint-Julien like notes of blackcurrants, damp earth, tobacco and lead pencil. With medium to full-bodied richness, ripe, sweet tannin, beautiful purity and a great finish, it’s another terrific wine from this estate that can be drunk today of cellared for 15+ years.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 97 Points (2013)
Graphite, lavender, mint, licorice and plums literally jump out of the glass in the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon S.L.V. Vibrant and powerful in the glass, the 2013 is endowed with striking nuance for a wine of its size. The wine's explosive energy is compelling, but it will be a number of years before the 2013 is ready to drink. It is pretty magical at this early stage just the same. (AG) (12/2016)

Un nez presque sensuel dans sa complexité aromatique, des fruits très mûrs, une structure dense, une finale longue avec des tannins soyeux et une bonne acidité... que demander de plus ?!
