Decanter (DCT) : 91 Points (2011)
One of Chile’s first coastal Syrahs and still one of its best. Taken from 50 different plots in two parts of the El Rosario Valley, farmed biodynamically. Gorgeous black- and blue-berried fruit, white pepper and pan juices mingle with fine tannins, perky acidity and a long finish.

Robert Parker (RP) : 92 Points (2009)
The 2009 Matetic Syrah is from clones 174 and 300 and is vinified in small 1,000 and 800 kilo vats. It has an intense, well-defined bouquet with blackberry, black tea, dark plum and a touch of rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, juicy tannins and crisp black fruit laced with burnt toast and a dash of spice towards the tightly coiled finish. Excellent. Drink now-2020+.

Stephen Tanzer (ST) : 92 Points (2009)
Vivid purple. Powerful, floral-accented aromas of black and blue fruits, olive tapenade, dried flowers and incense; very syrah. Plush, palate-staining blackberry and boysenberry flavors are firmed by tangy acidity and pick up smoke and candied violet qualities on the back half. Packs a punch but shows impressive elegance (this clocks in at 14% alcohol, which is by no means excessive for serious New World syrah) and finishes with excellent clarity and spicy persistence.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 91 Points (2009)
Blueberry and raspberry aromas are front and center along with a hint of animal hide. In the mouth, this is bullish, ripe and generous, with oak-rich flavors of vanilla, baked berry fruit and spice. Licorice, latent oak and heat work the finish on this ripe specimen. Among Chilean Syrahs, this is a perennial pack leader.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 92 Points (2008)
Very juicy, with an enticing core of linzer torte, blackberry preserves and crushed fig, liberally laced with bittersweet cocoa, roasted spice and anise. A briary note adds length to the finish. Drink now through 2012. 150 cases made.
