Robert Parker (RP) : 90 Points (2015)
This was a great vintage in Valpolicella, prizing dark and exuberant fruit flavors. The 2015 Campofiorin is made with the double-fermentation method, or ripasso, that is indigenous to this area, and the wine offers both fresh fruit aromas of blackberry and cherry as well as dried aromas of raisin and prune at the back. The blend is 70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella and 5% Molinara. This is a more accessible wine that would make a great pairing partner to a juicy burger topped with avocado, cheddar cheese and bacon. Production is huge at 1,700,000 bottles, but the wine delivers on a value promise.

A firm and silky red with a berry and hazelnut character. Medium body, silky tannins and a flavorful finish.

A well-knit, medium-bodied red, with fine-grained tannins providing a structured frame for fragrant spice box and cured tobacco accents, and flavors of black cherry coulis and smoke, with a touch of espresso. Corvina, Rondinella and Oseleta. Drink now through 2023. 27,500 cases made.

A blend of 80% Corvina, 10% Rondinella and 10% Oseleta, this elegantly structured wine has a fragrance of black-skinned berry, cinnamon and underbrush. The earthy palate delivers ripe black plum, blackberry jam, cocoa and a hint of truffle while velvety tannins lend finesse. Enjoy through 2022.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 90 Points (2013)
For Campofiorin Oro, Masi adds the juice from semi-dried corvina grapes to already-fermenting grape must, kicking off a second fermentation. The result is a deeply concentrated wine filled with black cherry and plum flavors. Two years of aging in oak barrels rounded out the tannins and added subtle spice notes that intensify the rich flavors without verging into sweetness. It feels tightly knit, with notes of fresh tobacco and dried herbs that linger on the finish.

Tasted May 2016 - Very dark colour. Fine aroma of sour and black cherry. Hint of smoke and coffee. Lovely tangy and zesty cherry fruit but still with fresh fruit character. Tastes bone dry. Fine but nicely dry tannins. Has bite and intensity and great fruit freshness. Food wine incarnate. (JH)

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 88 Points (2008)
Mar/Apr '12 Deep ruby. Red fruits, chocolate and vanilla on the nose. Rich and suave in the mouth, with ripe red fruit and chocolate flavors that are ample but lack a little complexity. Finishes smooth and moderately long. The word brolo is equivalent to the French clos (a walled vineyard); this wine is made from a special selection of the best grapes available, all native and mainly corvina.
