This wine is only sourced from the vineyard planted by the Hunter Valley Distillery in 1908 on very sandy soil, the legacy of creek beds countless years before. It's stacked with flavour to the point of space invasion, and doesn't need more time for muscle building.

James Suckling (JS) : 94 Points (2014)

A dense and waxy white with sliced-apple and lemon-curd character. Phenolic tension and solidity to it. Full body. Creamy and chewy.

Robert Parker (RP) : 91+ Points (2012)

The 2012 Single Vineyard HVD Hunter Chardonnay exudes lovely notes of grapefruit, white blossoms and apricot with nuances of struck match and meal. Light-bodied and tightly knit on the palate, it has a nice suggestion of silkiness offset by racy acid then finishes with plenty of citrus zest layers. Approachable now, it should drink to 2017+.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 90 Points (2011)

This grows at a vineyard planted in 1908 between two creeks, where the old vines get plenty of water and little stress. From a warm vintage, the 2011 is golden in color, with scents of toasted hops, roasted mushrooms and fresher notes of oranges as the acidity refreshes the finish. Caught between youth and maturity, this needs further bottle age to bring out its toasty complexities.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 93 Points (2010)

From a single vineyard planted in 1908, this Semillon is just entering its window of drinkability, where it should remain for at least another 10 years. Scents of fresh lime juice and grilled toast lead the way, backed by flavors of limes and mandarin oranges. It's medium in body, plump yet tightly focused, with a lengthy finish full of toast and citrus zest.Cellar Selection
