Wine Spectator (WS) : 93 Points (2019)
Solidly built, with a well-formed core of plum, blackberry and black cherry compote flavors supported by warm earth, anise, plum pit and black tea. The focused finish lets the fruit play out, keeping an underlying freshness in the process. Grenache and Syrah. Best from 2023.

James Suckling (JS) : 91 Points (2019)
Very meaty and savory with discreet red-fruit aromas, this is quite a traditional style of Chateauneuf with some spice. The well-crafted, gentle tannins support the full body without stepping into the foreground, and that makes this very easy to enjoy right now. Mellow finish. Drink or hold.

Jeb Dunnuck (JD) : 90 Points (2019)
Leading off the 2019s from bottle, the entry-level 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Bernardine (80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre) offers a Provençal, spicy, morello cherry, and garrigue-scented perfume to go with a medium to full-bodied, ripe yet also savory style on the palate. Drink it over the coming decade.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 92 Points (2018)
Deep garnet. Ripe red fruit, floral, exotic spice and incense aromas show fine definition and mineral lift. Coats the palate with sappy raspberry and cherry preserve, allspice and lavender pastille flavors that smoothly blend depth and vivacity. Supple tannins frame the long, smooth finish, which strongly echoes the floral and spice notes.

Robert Parker (RP) : 91 Points (2018)
The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape la Bernardine, a blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, is red-fruited and vibrant in this vintage, with hints of garrigue lending nuance to the cherries and raspberries. Medium to full-bodied, it's supple on the mid-palate, leading into a crisp, silky finish.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 95 Points (2016)
Murmurs of burnt cinnamon and leather accent brisk raspberry and sour-cherry preserves in this powerful but elegant Grenache (augmented by 5% each of Syrah and Mourvédre). Tasted in January 2021, its red fruit flavors are still pure and vibrant, but reveal inflections of earth, smoke and fur. Plush tannin's and a wisp of heat linger on the finish. Seductive now, the wine should continue to improve through 2035 and hold further. Editors’ Choice.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 92 Points (2016)
Made mostly of grenache and fermented entirely in cement tanks, this is a study in cherry, from the fleshy give of its pulp and the dark bitterness of its skins to the floral notes and spice of its blossoms and bark. Compressed at first, it opens with time in the glass, a graceful Châteauneuf to pair with seared duck breasts.
