An Amazing display of blue berries, blackberries, anise, dark chocolate and a subtle gaminess. This concentrated and inky bouquet also has highlights of violets and sweet caramel.

The palate shows the same intensity as the nose with a layered concentration of flavours on the entry with depth and persistent nuances of dense blackberry underpinned by light roasted coffee beans and dark forest fruits.

Elegant French oak and peppery fine tannins elongate the length of this wine delivering a long and lingering finish.

Decanter (DCT) : 95 Points (2019)
Leeuwin Estate is investing heavily in Shiraz and it shows. New plantings, clones, whole-bunch ferments and bigger barrels produce a vibrant, mid-weight style with riffs of spicy szechuan, fragrant white pepper, clove and violet to the firm red currant and cherry core; contrapuntal, creamy blackberry and crunchy pomegranate lend tension and twang. Fine-grained tannins and subtle oak, fruit and fresh acidity assert its cooler climate credentials.

James Suckling (JS) : 93 Points (2019)
Delicious aromas of violets, blueberries, blue plums, pink peppercorns, cloves and cardamom. Some chocolate orange, too. It’s creamy and juicy, with very well-integrated tannins and vibrant acidity. Aromatic and fresh. Drink now or hold.

Robert Parker (RP) : 93 Points (2019)
The 2019 vintage comes into play here: the wine is aromatic and detailed, with a poise and nuance not seen in the luscious, concentrated 2020 vintage. This 2019 Art Series Shiraz is a spicy wine wrapped around a core of purple fruit that huddles on the mid-palate. It is very good, sweet almost, but structural and lithe. The fruit for this wine was wholly sourced from the estate Peppy Park vineyard, 17 kilometers south of the main estate vineyard in Boodjidup. The fruit went over a sorting table, followed by a five-day cold soak. This cuvée usually includes up to 20% whole bunch, but there is none in the 2019 (or in the 2017). It is composed of 100% WA Clone, and the wine was matured for 18 months in 600-liter demi-muids (Rhone and a Bordelais coopers). "Our priority is opening up the canopies to obtain proper solarization of bunches," said Lovett.

James Halliday (JH) : 96 Points (2018)
The same layers of complexity and spice as the 2017, with all the ripe fruit and power hallmarks of the 2018 vintage. Bouncy and chewy, the tannins are woven into the fruit. Fruit, oak, acid and tannins are integrated and elegant, showing cohesion and harmony from the get-go. Cool-climate elegance is the lasting impression of this wine, as is the fine, chalky tannin profile that ultimately carries the fruit over the course of the palate. Very detailed. Margaret River can be responsible for seriously beautiful shiraz – this is one.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 91 Points (2018)
Red-cherry flavors meet the firm acidity of bitter melon in this sweet and tannic shiraz. The fruit is full enough to completely saturate those tannins, setting the wine up for barbecued brisket and burnt ends.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 90 Points (2018)
This 2018 vintage shows all the perfume, vivid fruit and oak spice we've come to expect from the “Art Series” Shiraz, with more power on the palate than in previous years. Vivid aromas of black currant, licorice, florals and sweet oak spice lead to a mouthful of tannins. They're chewy and a bit drying, but they don't entirely muffle the lifted acidity and attractive fruit and floral flavors. Give this another year or two in bottle for those tannins to knit into the wine and then drink until 2030 or so.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 90 Points (2014)
Spice, cedar and cream soda notes are generous and complement the fleshy, ripe raspberry, clove and cherry flavors at the core. Finishes with plenty of style and a fresh, vibrant detail.

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 92 Points (2012)
Vivid ruby. Heady aromas of black raspberry, floral pastilles, Indian spices and woodsmoke, with a hint of vanilla emerging slowly. Smooth, sweet and expansive on the palate, offering energetic dark berry and cola flavors and a hint of spicecake. Distinctly elegant in style, displaying a silky, Pinot-like texture and strong back-end lift. Closes very long and sappy, with harmonious tannins and an emphatic echo of sweet red fruit.
