Apalta is located at 170 Kilometers South West from Santiago in the Colchagua Valley. The Vineyard is situated on a North to South exposure, which is quite rare in Chile. This geography is responsible for the conditions that ensure balance for our vines and a slow ripening for the grapes.

Tasting Notes: Deep and intense red color with purple and cherry edges. Intense fruit expression with black fruit such as maqui berry and cassis well mixed with red fruit such as cherry and plums. Slightly spiced with anise and cedar notes.

Delicate fresh violets fragrance. Big structure and good volume, balance with a remarkable acidity

Robert Parker (RP) : 94 Points (2018)
The 2018 Le Petit Clos, a second wine born in 2014, was produced with a blend of 53% Carmenere, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot from organically and biodynamically certified vineyards even if the bottled doesn't carry the seals. It's ripe and powerful with the Apalta signature, earthy and stony. It fermented with indigenous yeasts in oak vats and matured in French barriques for some 22 months. It's full-bodied with a lush texture and round tannins, a softer version of the 2016.

James Suckling (JS) : 94 Points (2018)
A medium-bodied red with blackberry, red-berry and spice aromas and flavors. It’s chewy and polished with a medium finish. Dried flowers to the fruit at the finish. Tight and reserved now. Drink in 2022 and onwards.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 93 Points (2016)
Minerally and well-structured, with bright acidity backing the concentrated cherry and raspberry flavors. Dried green herbal notes and peppery hints show on the fresh finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carmenère. Drink now through 2024.

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 92 Points (2015)
Ripe berry and cassis aromas come with richer oak-based notes of mint, coconut and baking spice. A lively, fresh palate holds spicy black fruit flavors along with toast and mild herbal notes. Flavors of black coffee, black pepper and dark chocolate grace the finish on this blend of undefined red grapes. Drink through 2025.

Tim Atkin (TA) : 91 Points (2015)
“Le Petit Clos is like a scaled-down version of its older brother, Clos Apalta, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with 47% Carmenère and 4% Petit Verdot. Plush, ripe and well upholstered with lots of new oak and notes of fig, cassis and mulberry. Rich and intense.”

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 93 Points (2014)
Petit Clos is the new younger brother of the classic carmenere-based Clos Apalta, a second selection of the estates old vineyards in El Condor de Apalta, where some of the vines are almost 100 years old. This blend is 30 percent carmenere, while Clos is more than 70 percent. The balance of Petit is cabernet sauvignon (40 percent), merlot, as well as some petit verdot from younger vines. Dark cherry and dark, bitter chocolate lend a savory note to balance the lovely, sweet notes of blackberry in this wine, which is tighter, more focused and narrower than its big brother. It is fresher, too, but with a similar depth of flavor coming from these venerable old vines."
