Founded in 1961, Heitz Cellar is a Napa Valley legend that has helped shape the history of Napa Valley winemaking. The estate is now run by daughter Kathleen Heitz-Myers and is in finer fettle than ever before. They are truly the old world of the New World. As well as producing wine from this exemplary plot of vines Heitz also make the fine Bella Oaks and Trailside single vineyard cuvees in addition to a Cabernet blend from the Rutherford part of Napa, as well as some excellent Chardonnay and… Read more

Wine Enthusiast (WE) : 100 Points (2014)
From the famous Oakville site, this aged wine spends three years in 100% new French oak, one in neutral oak and an additional year in bottle. Though it has had time to evolve, it has years to go to unfurl its core of eucalyptus, mint and cedar. It shows an unmistakable crispness of red fruit, orange peel and stone, all honed by a grippy, generous palate. Enjoy 2024– 2034. #22 Top 100 Cellar Selection of 2020

Decanter (DCT) : 97 Points (2014)
Martha’s Vineyard is one of the most famous vineyards in the US, and the 2014 vintage from this hallowed site is as good as it gets for Napa Valley Cabernet. At every turn it exudes class, structure and a definitive air. Aromatically it commands you to pay attention; the palate will give you no choice. A thunderous wine in every dimension, giving off its classic mint and eucalyptus notes with perfectly harnessed power. The finish is a showstopper in its length and persistence. Tasted across five days, it was constantly on the ascent for the first two and a half, and perfectly enjoyable on the fourth. A true work of art.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 95 Points (2014)
Intense for the piercing beam of raspberry and red currant coulis flavors, this is distinctive, offering racy star anise, sassafras, mint and rooibos tea accents. Very focused through the finish. Drink now through 2040.

James Suckling (JS) : 95 Points (2013)
The blackcurrants and blackberries with lavender and rosemary really pop out of the glass. Full body, tight and polished tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Shows tension and focus with a precise finish. Very finely textured. A classical wine. From organically grown grapes. Try in 2021 and onwards.

Wines & Spirits (W&S) : 92 Points (2013)
This is a powerful vintage of Martha’s Vineyard, a huge wine following a graceful line, so it’s neither overwhelming nor oversaturated. It has the structural elasticity of 2013 in its tannins, a salty umami note that highlights the dark currant and green fig flavors. Joe Heitz made the first Martha’s Vineyard cabernet in 1966, from the May family’s 34-acre parcel in western Oakville, with a small-berried selection of cabernet that gives the concentrated fruit for this wine.
