The Allende Rioja, a 100% Tempranillo cuvee, was barrel fermented in a mix of new and used French oak, remained in barrel for 13 months, and was bottled unfiltered.

The wine is inky purple-colored and has a superb nose of pain grille, mineral, violets, cranberry, and blueberry.

The youthful palate reveals layers of fruit, ripe tannin, and excellent balance. The wine merits another 3-4 years of bottle age and should drink well through 2020.

Records from 1672 prove that the De Gregorio family has been involved in viticulture and winemaking for several centuries. In fact, Nicholas De Gregorio was, for almost 40 years, the vineyard manager for the oldest winery in Rioja, Marques de Murrieta. He is a zealous defender of the traditional Rioja grape varieties such as Graciano and Malvasia. Miguel Angel De Gregorio graduated from the University of Madrid with degrees in Agricultural Engineering and Enology. He has proven in his short… Read more

Robert Parker (RP) : 91+ Points (2012)
The regular red 2012 Allende is pure Tempranillo from vineyards in the village of Briones, fermented in stainless steel (malolactic included) and matured in French barriques for 14 months. This is the first vintage when they used 100% of their own grapes, as in the past they still purchased some grapes for this cuvée. The nose is clean and very harmonious, with nicely integrated oak in a subtle, approachable way, showing some more toasty aromas as the wine sat in the glass. The palate feels equally balanced, with very fine tannins, very approachable and with good overall balance. This shows amazing, vibrant acidity, which makes it very accessible and at the same time it should make it quite long-lived. 250,000 bottles produced.

James Suckling (JS) : 92 Points (2009)
Some flowers, berry and sandalwood character on the nose and the palate. Full body, integrated tannins and a clean and fresh finish. Shows intensity with finesse. (7/2015)

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) (VN) : 91 Points (2008)
Opaque ruby. Fresh raspberry and cherry aromas are complicated by notes of potpourri and anise. Silky and focused on the palate, offering juicy red fruit flavors and notes of licorice and floral pastilles. Fine-grained tannins add shape and focus to the long, sappy, gently spicy finish. This suave wine drinks very well right now.

Wine Spectator (WS) : 89 Points (2008)
April 2015 - This light, crisp red offers bright berry and cherry fruit flavors, with notes of vanilla, ginger and tea. Features gentle tannins and orange peel acidity, remaining focused and clean
